has anyone successfully upgraded from the mx518?

my mx518 is getting a bit worn after many years of ownership, should i just get another mx518 or what would be a good upgrade?

i love the mx518 but has anyone replaced it with another mouse and is satisfied with the decision?

i was looking at the g700 but not sure about using a wireless mouse for gaming

i think g400 or g500 should be successor of the mx518?

some years ago i had the mx510 (i think it's almost the same as mx518) and then i upgraded to a g5 and it was very very similar and i was satisfied. i think g5 and g400/g500 are very similar too.

maybe go to a store where they have the mice lay out and try if the shape fits you

Well, if you want something practically identical, then the G400 is what you're looking for, as it's really the current version of the MX518.

I prefer the G500 over the MX518/G400 in general, but depending on exactly what you're looking for, you might be better off sticking with the optical mice. As far as I know, all laser mice have at least a small amount of hardware acceleration, which really isn't ideal for serious gaming, but you do get used to it. The G500 (and G700, I believe) also has a scrollwheel that's toggleable between a normal-ish mode and a unstepped flywheel mode, which is pretty cool. However, it does make it possible to accidentally scroll while middle-clicking, even in normal scrollwheel mode. The G500 has extra buttons and adjustable weighting and whatnot as well.

i like the shape of the deathadder and the zowie ec1 much more than any logitech. plus the sidebuttons are better. the sensor is better also. the price however is the same.

I've upgraded from the MX518 for years now, prediction is the devils work. Either way, get the Razer Deathadder (It's been statistically proven by many hardware enthusiasts-alike that it is without doubt the most flawless mouse. I'm not a Razer fanboy), 3200 DPI is just as much as you need.

I use the G700, but wired (that's one of its advantages) and I'm very happy with it!
Went from Mx518 -> G9 -> Mx518 -> Lachesis -> Mx518 -> G700

You might wanna try the Xai, but other than that, I've never found a more reliable mouse than the mx518 so go with the g400.

Went from an MX510 to a Deathadder.  Don't really miss the MX510, though I'm not sure the DA will hold up as well.  The 510 is still going strong and on a second PC.

Get a G400, it is identical to the MX518 with minor improvements such as increased dpi resolution and rubberized surface. (a big plus for me because it means i dont have to clean the gunk off right mouse button ever few days)

I upgraded from my 510 to a Deathadder Black Edition after owning /using the 510 for about 8 years.

I highly recommend the Black Edition!

I was having a hard time like you choosing.  
I went from the mx518 to the:
Death Adder: Hated it
Mionix Naus 3200:  Hated it
Steelseries Ikari: Didn't like it that much
Logitech G9x: current, it's still taking getting used to but it's not that bad.  I still miss the mx 518

I went from mx518 and touchpad (srs gaming) to the Cyborg R.A.T.7 and never looked back.
Much heavier, but adjustable and more of a solid feeling.

I've been using the Kensington Pro Fit for a little while and I like it a lot. It's better than the 518 for big hands and costs WAY less.
