"XT Model M" - really?
« on: Sun, 22 January 2012, 15:55:39 »
Ebay item 320834576344 is a Model M with square logo, no LEDs, and the detachable cable has a big DIN connector.  But instead of being for a PC-AT as I expected, the seller is calling it an 'XT keyboard'.

Ordinarily I might dismiss this as ignorance, since the XT and AT connectors are the same although not compatible.  But look at item 320834576794 from the same seller: a PC-XT shown with this keyboard.  So was it perhaps a late-model PC-XT which included an early-model Model M keyboard with different electronics?

I think I see the answer: this is not the original PC XT but an IBM model 5162 a.k.a XT-286.  It was introduced in 1986, two years after the PC-AT, so it makes sense it would have had the same kind of keyboard interface.  Still, this could be a nice example of an early Model M with UK layout.

How can it be a 1391406 if it has no LEDs? Could this be a model F of different model number? (Maybe no label and he's assuming 1391406.)

Or is 1391406 a catch-all part number for all UK-layout Model Ms?
