Cherry G80 found, need cable/connector
« on: Wed, 25 January 2012, 01:58:25 »
Hi,

I just found 2 Cherry G80 Keyboards at my university and i realy would like to fix them.

The problem is, someone cut off the cable and i don't even know the type of connector.

The cable has 5 wires and i figured that it has to be an USB connector. So i got an USB cable and brazed the wires in every possible combination on the board but nothing worked.

I'd like to know if someone has an idea, if there are keybords with 5 wires and a PS/2 connector or what each colour means.

Both keyboards have 2 black wires (grounding i guess), a green, a yellow and a white one.

The article numbers are:

G80-3000LPMEU-0/00

G80-3000LSMDE-0/01

On the wiki it says "PS/2 connector (or combo)", but if its a PS/2 connector i need to know wich cables i need to use.

Hope one of you can help me with that.

open up the keyboard using the plastic clips on the back top and check the PCB with the LEDS on it. Newer g80-3000 boards use a plug in cable. The older ones are soldered. In any case, i can send you a cable from one of my junk boards.

I strongly advise making sure that you really know which wire is which and not relying only on their colors, but colors might be a good starting point.
