Hey guys,

first of all let me say how great this forum is, especially some of the more knowledgeable members, it really provided me with a lot of answers to my questions :)

Now, I am almost about to order my first mech. keyboard for my work PC (work from home).
I really like the yellow Filco, but they don't seem to offer ISO layouts in the USA and anyways there is no yellow ISO.

So I chose WASD, they seem to have a good reputation/quality, basically what I would do is yellow, with dark grey wasd keys to remind me I am a gamer at heart :)

1. Will it be a little bit disturbing/distracting when coding/writing for 8-10 hours a day to have a yellow keyboard "between" my eyes and the monitor? What are your experiences?
2. Should I wait for cherry browns and possibly save $10 or are reds gonna be fine? (WASD don't have browns for ISO layouts atm).
3. Should I do it? Should I jump? I have been using these M$ Comfort Curve 2000 for a VERY long time...

:D heiya! Well I'm not one of the professionals here but I'll try and answer based on my experience.

1. Although color is a minor thing, I would prefer the normal black or gray and NON-back lighted keyboards. When I game or work my full concentration is on the screen yellow will be just a teeny bit distracting. I'd prefer engraved or blank key caps for this purpose as well
2. Reds are fine in my opinion. I use browns but quite frankly the tactility isn't that much noticeable on the browns when you type fast. Go for reds specially if you prefer soft touch keyboards.
3. Yes. I have used rubber dome keyboards for 23 years of my life. After I moved to mechanical, typing felt so much better. (oh wait... comfort curve is rubber dome right?)

Regarding the color of your keycaps: If you do not know to touch typing , you need to learn since it will help you in the long term. One of the several adventages is that you do not need to look at your keyboard any more while you are typing

I am sorta touch typing, my point was more if a yellow area in my "vision field?" will be distracting, everything is black here.
Common out developers and writers help me chose? :)

It would be as distracting as a glass of your favorite soda on your desk while you work.

you are probably right, I just want to do the right thing here, $170 is quite something, and if I don't like it have to add $50? for a new key set.

in 15 years I only had 2 spills, one was really bad with apple juice all over an almost brand new keyboard but I was able to open, rince and save it, some media keys where a bit sticky though. The other one with coffee but it stayed on the table, loads on my mouse pad (made of glass) and my mouse was swimming, just wiped it off nothing broken :D

Well if you are concerned with the color scheme because you're worried about the waste in money then there is nothing better than playing it safe with the colors and just getting black, gray or (if you are good with cleaning)white. Nothing beats those colors when it comes to matching your current computer color scheme.

Yeah plain black is the usual, that and the so readily available customization options from WASD make me want to make life a bit more colorful, its the "well its the same price for more fun" feeling :)

I just ordered a CM quickfire with reds for my gaming computer, lets see if I like those, will make a more informed decision after that :)
