PS/2 to USB adapter pinouts?
« on: Sun, 26 February 2012, 17:06:40 »
I've been waiting for two weeks now for my PS/2 to USB adapter to arrive from the 'ships from the US!' ebay seller, and I'm growing impatient.

I understand that some of these adapters are passive, and I'm wondering if it's worth just soldering this 6' beige USB lead I have laying around directly into the keyboard.
It would mean I can use the keyboard now, and would be more elegant than legoing adapters together (it's an AT connector)

Firstly, I'd like to know if this 'dumb' adapter idea is likely to work with a Focus FK-2001, or if it needs to have the extra electronics of a more complex adapter to work?

Secondly, if a simple rewire is likely to work, what are the pinouts of a passive adapter, so I can work out how to connect the USB lead?

Nope, rewire won't work, it needs the smarts.

Nuts.
I hope the adapter I bought is smart enough.
It's that ubiquitous generic Chinese one with a transparent blue casing and two PS/2 ports. I read on anither site that they work ok with the model M, so hopefully it will work with my Focus too.

Edit: It wasn't another site, it was the wiki (see, some noobs do read the wiki!)
It says that the adapter works with a model M on Windows, gives weird behavior on OSX, but unfortunately doesn't mention Linux :(
fingers crossed...
