240 GB SSD for $250 (OCZ AGILITY 3, NEWEGG 3/5/2012 only)

Yep, good ol' Agility 3 dropping to nearly 1GB/$. I'd snap these up because, although the tech is older and it's Sandforce, it's still a decent tier 240 GB SSD and a firmware flash will most likely fix any problems you're having with it.

Yeah, I know about OCZ's reputation, but still, for this price it shouldn't be disregarded completely.

I've heard bad things about Sandforce's reliability.  I went with a Marvell unit, one of Crucial's, for mine, and I've recently heard that companies have been squeezing more speed out of the Marvell hardware.

Can a few people with Sandforce SSDs confirm either way?

Wasnt this mobo issue caused by p67 chipsets when intel first released them, and thats why they recalled all mobos with the chipset?

Maybe I should clarify, a slap on the reset key would bring up the OS as normal. I changed my Mobo because it was time for an upgrade, not because my SSD was causing me hassle. It would happen maybe once a month. I leave my PC on all the time, I would often come back from work with it sitting at the boot screen, and a simple hard cycle would take everything back to normal.

I switched from mobo ASUS P5K-e WiFi-AP to ASUS P8Z68-V in, I suppose September? Everything has been smooth sailing for me.

Everything I said was about a Sandforce Drive. From what i've Heard/Read, they've ironed out a lot of the kinks with it, but you would have to update the firmware before first install or upon re-install otherwise it blanks the drive.

Hey, i'm just throwing it out there for people who would be interested in a $1.05/GB 240 GB SSD. If you can find any other 240s for that price, let me know.  I've laid out my experiences on the table, and admitted that I did at one time have problems with it that were related to the technology, not even the brand. It's not like i'm an OCZ fanboi.

You're obviously not interested in the deal anyways so I dunno why you're threadcrapping.

I was merely informing people how terrible OCZ is, not to say that $250 for a 240 GB SSD isn't a good deal which it is. But if a product constantly dies on you and isn't reliable I wouldn't even buy it if it was $150.

If you don't have firsthand or at least third-party IRL experience with the product you're trashing, then you may as well leave it up to the consumer to read product reviews from actual owners of the product, of which there are plenty on newegg.

I've owned 3 OCZ SSD in total, first one was fine but the other 2 were all terrible hence my dislike for them. I don't know much more first hand you want...

This isn't jeans, branding has nothing to do with how those Sandforce-based SSDs behave. You just fail at clearing your CMOS.

Actually that's not true in this case.  Branding has a whole lot to do with the agreement made with SandForce on how much support is being provided, their choices in what NAND to use and what in-house modifications they've made and their ability to test them.

In that sense, yes. But for that generation of drives OCZ had more leeway in these matters than other Sandforce partners did.

So I gotta ask how you know what gen OCZ drive tsangan is talking about when he doesn't state such?  How do you know his issue had anything to do with his CMOS, since he didn't mention details?

Personally I'm not touching SandForce drives again until LSI has a major say in how things are built and tested.  The proof that this is needed is in Intel being very tight lipped about what voodoo they played with their own SF offering.

I have a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe, so do a couple of friends. None of us have had any issues with our SSDs so far. My friends bought theirs back in the summer, mine in late Fall. I My drive also shipped with the latest firmware, which might be why I have had no issues.

Performance and speed wise, blazing fast. A quick Google search on the M4 benchmark (in AS SSD) showed me lower speeds on the M4 in comparison to my Mushkin when I ran tests during my PC installation. How much of a difference, I couldn't tell as it was a few months back. Benchmarks are just for show anyway; if I can do what I want to do with my computer reliably and at a fast speed, it passes my test.

That being said, my Sandforce drive has worked and performed reliably for me and friends. YMMV.

We've all heard horror stories about the OCZ drives, but at the end of the day $1/GB on a SSD is a pretty good find. Whether or not someone wants to jump on the deal is up to him or her.
