Hey guys! Help with keycap vendors?
« on: Tue, 03 April 2012, 00:27:32 »
So looks like my budget for a new mechanical keyboard is a little higher than i expected and figured i would treat myself to some PBT keycaps. Those are the best kind right? I googled it a few times and searched but didn't find many vendors for engraved (blank) PBT keycaps. I would like to not spend so much on them but well see how much i end up with in the end. Also i would like some different colors, is there a way to order different colors without buying 2 sets of caps? Also they are going to be for (probably) the CM quickfire rapid with reds.

Thanks for any help!

That seems like a bit much for keycaps. I stumbled across this site http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=12729645654&cm_cat=0 and you can order them using this site http://taobaofocus.com for a lot cheaper. Any idea about the quality?

Why did no one tell me that there are cheaper keycaps before I spent hundreds on Realforce sets??

Fake edit: I'm afraid I can't speak for the quality of those keys you found on Taobao, although they're probably fine. You're not going to find the high-end stuff in the price range you're looking at, but whatever PBT keycaps you end up with should feel nicer than the stock ABS keys that come with the keyboard. It's only a matter of time before you're spending far more than you ever thought you would on keycaps though. ;)

Was the triple quote some sort of "make fun of the newbie" or just an honest mistake. I have a really tight budget so i can't spend too much extra on keycaps but i hear PBT make a world of difference in the feel of a switch.

Wasn't making fun of you exactly, it was just an attempt at emphasizing the fact that some people around here spend a bit on keycaps. PBT is definitely the way to go if you want the best feeling keys, but PBT tends to be more expensive than ABS.
