kind of feels nice when you know patience pays off, let other people fight for the same board and pay double what I did.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NM-VG-1986-USA-MFG-IBM-J1-MODEL-M-5-PIN-CLICKY-KEYBOARD-1390131-W-XTRAS-/280878358830?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item4165a7a12e

I just got into collecting them few months a go, it all started innocent by buying new one without box and only the styrofoam for like $80 shipped. Once I laid my eyes on it that was it.... As for the DS that I ordered I think I'm gonna sell them, dont think I dig cherry boards as much as BS and I know we are niche comparing to how many peeps like Cherry boards or in general Logitech LED boards.

That collection appears to be devoid of Model Fs, unless that lone 122-key terminal is an F, can't tell from the photo.

But maybe that is considered to be a separate collection.

It says M for a reason. He's got a few Fs too.

Frankly my Industrial Mini beats his Industrial Mini and that's all that matters to me.
And now your talking from where the sun wont shine, I got no Industrial mini, or any mini at all, for now that is. I only got this from the gray gang:

EDIT: My bad Ripster you were talking of webwit SSK's gray.....

Lol. You've got more than double the M's I have and I have been collecting M's for almost 3-4 times as long. How much did you pay for all them? I did only have 2 M's but I was lucky enough to be given 3. And the person that gave them to me i believe has a whole stash of them. (BTW, they only live up the road from me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) I havn't asked them if they have anymore but I suspect so as the ones that this person gave me were not fully functional (missing caps and such) and is keeping the complete ones until I come up with a reasonable offer. And they are oblivious to the value of a model m.( LOL i could get 20 M's for like $5)

If I could get my hands on 20 model M's for $5 each, would for sure clean them up detailed, bolt mod them in my spare time, order keycaps from Unicomp that are missing . Sell them $100 each on ebay, yes people will pay $100 for a bolt modded cleaned/refurbished IBM.

I beg to disagree.

Last fall I listed an immaculate bolt-modded blue label for $100, here and on ebay. Over the course of a month and a half I dropped the price about $10 per week and ended up selling it at about $45-50 + shipping. ($16 domestic and $58 international, just what the USPS charges for a flat rate board game priority box)

It was a really nice one, too. I have another couple that I was considering giving the same treatment, but the experience was very disappointing.

If you are working for more than minimum wage, you would need to get AT LEAST $75-85 to even consider something like that (well, maybe $40-50 if you really did get the board for $5 in your hands).

Congrats on (yet another!) purchase OP.

People in Australia will pay $100USD for a Model M. They aren't as common here, so demand outweighs supply by quite a lot. Personally I'd only pay that much for a new-old stock one (and have done recently).
Agreed. Bolt-modding is NOT something you do for profit- the amount of time and effort involved would mean that you'd have to sell them for quite a lot more than what anyone would be prepared to pay (depending on how 'valuable' your time is I guess).

I bolt mod my own boards, and would happy do one for a close friend / family member for beer/scotch, but not for profit.

My Silver label is my favourite Model M (and also the one I bolt modded). It is easily the most well made board of the ones I own (including the Unicomp and the Lexmark). Unlike all the other board, the Silver label one fits together perfectly in every aspect. Mine is a UK made one (but don't hold that against me).

nothing to hold against you on that one, just has the bigger enter key that most folks dislike while find it quite eye pleasing :-)  One day buddy I will hopefully find localy dirt cheap model M and will go for my first bolt mod. If all goes well which I'm sure it will, next all my used boards I have I will bolt mod them :-)

Huh, I recently sold a M on ebay for $82. It was engraved on the back. I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10. It sold to a guy at the University of Sydney. The board super clean. I bought most of my M's from this guy on the north side of Bris. He had a IBM XT that sold for only $20. However I didn't get it though (i didn't realise the value at the time) this was back when I just started collecting back in early 2010. Prices have skyrocketed for M's but strangly not for F's. But terminals in aus  sell for loads. Don't know why. Supply and demand. (they should go to a1computers

Aha, you are wrong about the enter key. As it happens, it has standard US (ANSI) layout, despite being made in the UK. Go figure.
