KBC Poker or Noppoo Choco Mini (brown switches)
« on: Sun, 03 June 2012, 08:41:09 »
Hey guys, im looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard, and i wanted your opinion on whats better, i will be mainly tpying and gaming with the keyboard. So what i really want to know is the build quility of both the keyboards, which one is better, from the reviews i saw on he Noppoo it was a little flimsy, but the KBC looked like a solid build, and one more thing for anyone with the KBC, is that is it very inconvenient for gaming, as the F keys are on the number keys, and you would have to use a funtion key to use them, thank you all in advance :)

Is there a reason that you want a super small layout?
Why not just get a TKL?
I find the layout of my poker a pain when I game.
I can't comment on the build quality of the noppoo, but my poker is quite nice, although the pcb flex can be annoying whilst typing.

I have 2 Pokers. I love them and game quite a lot on them. I don't play many game that use function key though so it's no issue for me. Build quality is on par with other pcb mount keyboard. I would definitely recommend Poker, by far my favorite keyboard and I've tried quite a few.

And the reason im going for a small form factor is because i dont want all the side keys (to me they are very annoying)
and i would get a TKL however i would like to buy a filco one, and i cant find one anywhere, so i guess Noppoo Mini an KBC is my last resort,
and again its my first mechanical, so i want it to be of high quality

Where are you from? Have you checked ebay? there are lots of TKL keyboards out there.
I've owned two leopolds, and used a friends keycool, the keycool was just as nice as my leopolds, except for the red switches.

The only thing I don't like about my poker is the PCB flex, if it didn't flex so much I would use it much more.
Although I would still swap back to my leopold if I started to game,
having the F-keys on a second layer, and the "large" arrow keys are quite annoying to me.

If you're from the US, Amazon is going to be stocked with Filco boards within this upcoming week I believe. If you can wait a few days, you'll be able to get your hands on one.

Alternatively, you can visit The Keyboard Co. if you're in Europe and need a non-US layout. They're currently out of stock for US layouts, but their stock will be on Amazon when the shipment mentioned above gets in.

What's going on with the poker supply? I wanted to pick one up after having traded it last summer and they seem to have morphed (pure/race?) or vanished. I've been away from the forums for a couple months, so I'm out of the loop on this.

Does the Poker function layer work normally if I change keyboard language in Windows?

I'm wondering the same thing.  People are saying that the Pokers are out and the Pure/Race are the new layout.  It would be a shame if that was true though, I really like the Pokers.

I have a choc mini and a pure (same key layout as poker) Here are some pics to compare the Choc and Pure.
http://imgur.com/a/cKV0R#0

I've only had the Pure for a day now, but I am already missing the dedicated arrow keys. I use them more than I thought I was going to. It's not a deal breaker for me yet, I'm going to give myself a few days to try and get used to the Arrow key thing.

I will say that I've really enjoyed my Choc Mini though. But mine has Reds and I wanted to give Browns a shot so I picked up this Pure. The only thing that bugs me about the Choc is the uncommonly sized modifiers and stabilizer choice has limited the amount of customization that I can do.

The font on those keys is nice. PBTs or is that what they look like w/out the backlight?

Pure has almost the same layout as last year's model, but that extra backquote key to the right of shift is kind of a bizarre placement choice.

I went with the noppoo choc mini because of the separate f keys mainly.  I've had the keyboard for quite some time and have enjoyed using it.
