Got my Royal Alpha PCB and caps in the mail today.  It took forever, but they finally came.  They're some sexy dyesubs and doubleshots (only the green caps and sliders on the side are doubleshot).  Interestingly, some of the caps give their size on the underside.  For example, the Lock cap says 1 3/4 x1 C on the bottom, Tab says D 1 1/2 x 1, and Repeat says 1 1/2 x1 C on the bottom.

The PCB has vintage black MYs on it. They're surprisingly decent feeling.  The spring almost is like a Clear, lighter at the top and heavier and springier at the bottom.  The throw is short, but if you're good at floating, they could actually make for some nice switches, IMO, thought they are much more wobbly than Cherry MX switches.

Damn, those really are nice. Was that the same Royal that was posted in the Great Finds? Either way, they look way better then I'd imagined, and I imagined them looking really good.

Yup, that was the one.  I was really nervous when it got posted there since I had asked the seller if they could sell me the typewriter since they had tried to sell it ~4 times before.  They told me they'd post it again and just make an offer of $10 for it.  Then it got posted there, far too many people messaged them, and it looked like they were going to renege on the deal.  Fortunately, and thanks in part to Photoelectric, they didn't and I got myself an awesome set.

The plates I got earlier today from GON, the purple looks much nicer in real life though.

looking really nice! what boards are they going in?

surely expensive too right?  >:D ^-^

The red one will be going in my 7075 alu case with a PCB from sprit loaded with clears and 62g springs.

Not sure on the purple one, probably do a GH60 with browns but I'll see how I like plate mounted ergos before I go with brown.

Price wasn't too bad at $40, I do wish they allowed switch top removal but the lasering and anodising is excellent.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Just a Royal couple of pages isn't it?  Those are such sexy caps.  That's definitely another set of old typewriter caps that I want along with the beige and black with orange sublegends ones and a few others.

They are so sexy.  And nice and thick too.  The ones I got are practically new.

It makes me want to do my vintage inspired typewriter caps even more now.  I may have to do an IC soon.

Heck, even a BSP dyesub GB with old typewriter legends would be awesome, especially if we got some GMK mods and Code keys to go with it.

You and me both. I forgot to mention mine are extremely clean and feel new.

I'd be in for a BSP GB with special legends. GMK Code keys would be awesome, it's unfortunate we didn't get at least two doubleshot packs to MOQ for Ivan's GB.

I'll check out your IC, didn't see it before

Nice set Dubs, and a pretty unusual one. Mostly US is used in Netherlands so it's quite something to see the old deprecated layout. They would look nice teamed up with a blue imsto set, or with blue on white/beige BSP to fill it out on modern keyboard.

That's a crossed-out "a", as I've learned looking at Dorkvader's beamspring keyboard.  Means delete or something like that.

Never heard of a promise ring until I met Americans.  Sounds like BS made up by the jewellery companies to me (to sell more products) I'm honest . That's a nice ring though.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Yup.

People are insecure. Sometimes they need something like this to make them understand that I want to be with her for the rest of my life.

I'm not ready to be actually married yet, but I do want to in the future.

And no we don't live together, we're doing long distance so she's extra insecure about our future. This is me saying that she shouldn't be afraid.

I mean you guys can call it stupid, but I don't care I ain't marrying you.

I have a few friends who have given/recieved them. I think it's really become common place in contemporary culture due to the fact that this generation, on average, is leaving "the nest" later and progressing slower. People just out of college (or in college) can't really make any guarantees about where they are going to be in the next 5 years and as such a promise ring is a nice way to say "You mean a great deal to me and I love you very much" without making a promise that you can't keep. I can understand that it would seem kinda superficial to many but I think it's really a nice way to express ones feelings when situations are complicated.

Nice set Dubs, and a pretty unusual one. Mostly US is used in Netherlands so it's quite something to see the old deprecated layout. They would look nice teamed up with a blue imsto set, or with blue on white/beige BSP to fill it out on modern keyboard.

Thanks Ivan, I'm really happy with it. I was thinking blue BSP.

You got nice present !  :thumb:

thanks Zenuty!

What's the point of your comment?

That was a very kind comment. I'm sure kenmai9 appreciates it a lot.

I see the satire in some peculiar customs too, but there's no need to be condescending about a nice gesture on kenmai9's part.  Especially in a media thread for new mail arrivals.

How did a What did you get in the mail today? thread turn into a question about relationships between people?

The promise ring thing started out as a simple gold/silver ring given by guys to girls where it wasn't appropriate to get engaged.  Such as in high school.

I've heard of it turning into nice stones fairly recently and this is the first time I've seen it with a stone personally.

Is it still a right hand ring?

EDIT:

Not sure how anyone can hate on someone else for buying jewelry for their girlfriend? :S

wooo! surprise keycaps! thanks DT SS! :)

These are from a Triumph Adler Gabriele 7007 L Typewriter. It's the Dutch layout and they are dyesub and MX Compatible. They come straight from BSP I believe. Really an amazing gift, thanks! :D

Damnnn.  Loving the color combo on those.  Gratzzz.
