Anyway to test topre/store with refund policy in US?
« on: Wed, 01 August 2012, 10:02:56 »
Hi,

I'm more than willing to dump good money on a new keyboard, but since switch preference is largely personal preference, I wouldn't want to dump 250$+ on a keyboard I might not like. So is there any place in the US where I could possibly test drive a topre, or better yet, an online store with a decent return policy?

Thanks for the help.

Elitekeyboards would be your best bet but I'm not sure about returns with them.

Buy one, try it and if you don't like it then sell it on here!

Yea as far as I can see EK doesn't accept returns (unless they're for actual defects).

Yea I guess selling here would definitely be a good option but I would still prefer a storefront with a return policy if anyone knows of one.

I don't think you can buy a Topre in a physical store outside of Japan

That said, I have BossBorot's Topre switch tester numpad and will be starting another tour at some point.  Look for a thread in the keyboard subforum called "Topre Switch Tester Tour" for more details.

I got a switch testing bag from Mrinterface

Its hard to get a great feel for typing from one switch, but I definitely know a lot more about how it feels now.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. The great thing about mechanical boards is that they maintain a high resale value. Especially the Topres. If you just try it out for an hour or so and decide you don't like it, you can probably get away with selling it for $10-$20 less than you bought it. And I can totally stomach that for trying out a board.
