That's a great picture, Beast. I need a better camera...
Good lighting always helps. You don't necessarily need a better camera
^+1. A better camera will allow you to take good pictures in bad light. And the better the camera the worse light you need to capture images quickly. Because you can select camera settings to offset the bad lighting, like white balance, and ISO adjustment. But if you are taking pics of your keyboard, which is stationary, and which you can get as close to as you need, what you really should do first is get a good light box, and a $30 tripod. Then you can take great pics of your keyboard/Clacks with a sub $300 camera. You don't really need a super camera to take a good pic of something that is not moving, if you can throw some good light on it. However, with that said, if you want to buy a great camera, the best value right now, IMHO, for a DSLR in DX format is the Nikon d7100. Get the camera body and kit lens, and get a secondary Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 prime lens for about $180. Canon is coming out with a competing camera, which will cost about $200-300 more, but it's rumored to be superior, but you will have to wait until the end of the year to get it.
