The inferior quality issue is supposedly to do with how the keys feel. Apparently they are quite loose compared with those of a Lexmark-made one.

It's weird to see a real picture of one. Unicomp's picture of the trackpoint-less Mighty Mouse seems to be a crudely photoshopped version of their M4-1 equivalent -



You can see that the mouse buttons are half-there, and the keyboard has trackpoint GHB keys without the trackpoint... Either it's a picture of a prototype model, or someone in Unicomp went out of their way to edit a picture that ended up looking much worse than if they had just got a camera and photographed the real thing

In my case, that's true. I have a Lexmark made M4 that has sturdier and quieter keys. The Unicomp made M4-1 is significantly louder, and the keys wobble in their seatings. I've taken some pics to illustrate this, but haven't had the time to crop/rescale them all.

If you get a chance ask Chuck if he knows whether IBM Model M and/or Customizers are made of ABS plastic.
