I'm thinking of joining Overclock.net. They'll definitely appreciate my taste for technology even more than you guys do.

Is that sarcasm or irony? I'm confused.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

I like that most of them are getting widely varying results.  I suspect that many are not holding down both shift keys, don't know how to type, don't know how to spell, are drunk, are REALLY drunk, stoned, or are actually gaming the stupid test to appear leet.

Sounds like me.

The sole purpose of this thread is to make fun of the Overclock.net guys (and lmnop) because that's just the kind of person I am.

Somebody go straighten them out.  Wait until they hit 100 pages first.

I frequent that forum quite often, how dare you!

I demand penance; help me in my thread!

With all due respect, I wouldn't say that judging an entire forum that is specifically overclocking/gaming orientated on their knowledge on keyboards is fair.

That'd be like me coming here and assessing you on the effect of the PCI-E frequency when trying to use a high BCLK on an i7 CPU, then calling you stupid if you didn't fully understand.

OCN Member here by the way, who knows very little about keyboards.

Again, the 'with all due respect' thing of course...

The problem isn't that they're "doing it wrong" or "failing to understand". Nobody should be made fun of for that.

The problem is that while doing it wrong and/or failing to understand, they are also claiming that they are doing it right and/or understanding completely.

In order for your example to fit, we'd need to be claiming without prompting that we already do fully understand such timings.

I can't view the thread any more (it's been deleted for whatever reason) so I have absolutely no idea if the majority of the OCN userbase claimed to fully understand the subject at hand :o

But I see what you're saying. It's just that your... descriptions were a bit strong. It's not necessarily their fault that they're ignorant on the matter - there's a lot of misinformation floating around the internet, and they may have been told by someone at some point that what they're doing incorrectly is in fact correct, or something like that.

Maybe I'm just overly-sensitive because OCN is my home forum, or maybe I just wouldn't particularly like to see a huge group of people being generalised/branded for their ignorance on a specific topic.

Perhaps they didn't read the posts?

I mean, it was a fairly large thread; I doubt many people read even 10% of it, so there's a good chance that a lot of people didn't read those posts, and only posted their results, then ****ed off.

I've explained it before. OCN has a "latest discussions" feed on the homepage so members can see what all the current threads are every time they refresh. So they'll usually check out threads faster in sections they'd usually not go to. Hardforum on the other hand doesn't have this.

I think that's partially because of all the promotion iMav did for Geekhack in the early days.

When you comment on every blog that tangentially mentions keyboards, with a link to Geekhack, your pagerank goes WAY up. ;)

I've pointed out in the OCN mechanical keyboard thread that Model Ms are not mechanical keyboards. This has the potential to be fun if lmnop, manyak, phaedrus et al. don't give away the ending =]

"Mechanical" is a lot more concise than saying "with individually engineered mechanisms that provide clean movement and ensure reliable switching." A model M fits this description. But yes, lots of fun to be had with people who don't know why the membrane is not a handicap to the model M.

If I was to be really anal, I'd argue that the only true mechanical keyboards are typewriter-derived keyboards which uses a completely mechanical mechanism to register the key presses.

I'm a member there, where I found out about the mech/topre keyboard community and then once you join that you realise they're all ignorant too the world of keyboards, it's quite funny the more you delve into a specific subject the more other people irritate you, I imagine having a PHD in something would drive you crazy.

It reminds me of when I got into lasers, at first Kipkay was God, you do a bit of reading and oh god he's hated by everyone and is in actual fact a tit.
