SoCal GH meeting
« on: Sat, 04 August 2012, 22:43:04 »
Members attended: litster, demik, hashbaz, mkawa, reaper & sherryton (<--- abandoned his friends for San Diego).  And what do you know, we were able to get 2 nemesis to meet in public without any issues.  :p

- Boba milktea is the drink of choice for these meetings
- KMAC w/ Cherry MX black on the right (with i3oilermaker's billiard set and the elusive AF keycap)
- Oneproductl's aluminum cases (one silver and one blue)

-  IBM SSK bolt-modded from mkawa
-  HHMX w/ Cherry MX black (most of my boards have black switches on them)
-  Oneproduct's aluminum case
-  Ducky Year of the Dragon edition (courtesy of mkawa)
-  Aluminum carrying case from S. Korea

Any questions please post away and we hope to have many more of these local meetings (new members are always welcome).  Currently it's just me, demik and sherryton that meet regularly.

I forgot my camera at the boba place and it was dropped on the floor on the right of that last pic. ><  Wasn't too concern about the camera since it was just a point n shoot but i was more worried about pics inside since I didn't have any backups.

And guess what?   I left my camera there at the boba place for a good 2 - 3 hours, went back and it was still there lying on the floor. ><

In addition to the disdain of many, we also got the attention of at least on reasonably attractive lady.  She liked the Red Alert set on reaper's KMAC. :D  And her bf invited litster and me to come hack with his "coder buddies" some time. X___X

The big takeaways of this meeting for me are that the KMAC is the nicest and most solid keyboard I've ever encountered, and I need an SSK. :P

The exact quote, which I said out loud in public, with a gentleman of African descent sitting within earshot, is "no one likes blacks".

i think he said they were 62g, but they definitely had a different feel than other boards i've tried with blacks; i don't know if the stickers/lube had anything to do with it, but they felt more like reds than blacks.

The way I imagine it, it's like the mid point between red and blacks, and is ultra smooth. If they are WYSE blacks, that might have something to do it.
Gonna try put them on my Phantom, together with the WYSE blacks when it ships...

ultra-smooth is definitely an apt phrase for what it felt like, and the feel of each key in terms of force feedback and tactility were extremely uniform. each key felt almost exactly the same. i feel like new blue switches, otoh, often vary significantly in sound and feel
