Microsoft Surface touch keyboard switches ?
« on: Fri, 19 October 2012, 15:55:27 »
Hi GH,

It's me again.
Wondering if anyone knows the design / switch technology of the new MS surface keyboards.

The tablet comes with 2 different keyboard models

The Touch keyboard: colorful  thin one

Seems to be based on the sidewinder keyboards. "pressure sensitive" something or other. basically a smarter dome.

The Type Keyboard: the black one.
has something i've not seen before, some article write ups identify it being a mechanical kb, but we all know how accurate non kb enthusiast reporters can be with these things.

This is the best picture i have and i can't really tell what they are.

#1 looks like a scissor. Not sure about "pressure sensitive, though.
#2 sort of looks like just a capacitive sensor. Didn't Synaptics talk about something they were coming out with along that line?

Better pictures once it's released will help tremendously. I could be completely wrong about both :p

The touch cover keyboard is some sort of pressure sensitive pad. I wouldn't say it's a rubber dome. If you watch the keynote, they talk about the tech.

Type cover uses super tiny scissor switches iirc.
