Does this exist : mxblue, low profile, Tenkeyless ?
« on: Mon, 19 November 2012, 08:47:02 »
So yeah, I am looking for a board which incorporates the above mentioned attributes into one.

I have searched quite a bit but have not found anything fitting my specifications :(

It doesn't exist since MX Blues are not low-profile switches.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

low profile switches?

I thought low profile refers to the keyboard height itself and not the switches ?

Also i thought Mx boards are already lower than for example, say, Filcos ?

Sorry, I may have misunderstood what you meant by low-profile. I thought you meant low-profile keys.

But even so, there are no such thing as "low-profile" boards with MX switches. Filcos have MX switches. Someone asked a similar question a few days ago, and the answer is that Filcos, etc. are basically as low as you can get with MX switches, otherwise there would be no space to fit all the components in the case.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

Most Filcos are made with Cherry MX switches (some are made with others). As jeroplane mentioned, being that the MX switch itself is not low in profile, the board around it, by relation, won't be low profile.

okay, so what other options would I have, what alternatives are there to the mx blue switches if i wanted them "lower" ?

Would i try to obtain "flatter" keycaps? is that even possible to build in ?

Also thank you for the replies so far, I appreciate it.

All 4 major switches (red/blue/brown/black) and don't let the key cap fool you too much.

While I haven't got one to measure, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were just being sneaky with the combination of a higher frame and slightly lower cap height with a change in skirt shape.  The switch still has all the same dimensions, and Cherry brand caps were already the lowest profile.  Looks like they just took the lowest one they had and went with a non-sculpted layout (meaning successive rows of keys are not different heights.

3800 keys are just slightly lower than the standard Cherry homerow. There is some good comparison in sixty's review over at DT.

Other than the G80-3800 closest thing I can thing of to what you might like is some vintage low profile Alps. They are mostly found in early 80's 'laptops' but I have seen them in a few stand alone keyboard with Toshiba brand.
There is also Cherry ML switch in the G84 series. Those boards are mostly mini style layout, though a few other larger layout exist too.

Also even better, i never liked the sculpted key- rows. im just so used to this cheap logitech super-flat rubber-dome. While the rubber dome keys are pretty bad, i enjoy the flatness and layout.

Iysol, i will check those out, thank you.
