Greetings!
« on: Thu, 06 December 2012, 10:44:55 »
Hey GH.

I've been lurking around here for quite some time and finally decided to come out from the shadows.

I got my first mechanical keyboard (unicomp 104 something or other) about 5 years ago and since then I have been hooked. Since the Unicomp I have acquired several mechanical keyboards. From scrounging around old labs at work I found 2 model-Ms in good condition and a Model-F. Then I discovered cherry switches and bought a Rosewill board with Browns, which I loved. Since I liked the Browns so much I bought another Rosewill with Blue switches, and hated it. It was then that I realized that my what I liked the most about mechanical keyboards wasn't the click-clack, but the feel of the switches registering. In light of that I bought a Realforce 103 UB which I am typing this post on. I am in love with Topre switches and I don't think I'll ever go back to Cherrys. All the boards I own are non-ten-key-less (ten-key-full) boards since I am a number pad ninja, but for my next purchase I am going to give into my minimalist urges and buy a HHKB Pro2.

TL;DR
Has: (in order of typing pleasure)
Model-F (Never use since its PC/XT)
Realforce 103 UB
Rosewill Cherry Brown
Model-M
Model-M
Unicomp 104
Rosewill Cherry Blue

Wants:
HHKB pro2

Welcome to Geekhack!

Another Topre fan sidles out of the shadows.  Don't be shy, only some of our Topre advocates foam at the mouth ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
