I've been here 10 months so far.  I am a civilian contractor, so I can leave whenever I want...but it is in my best interest to stay at least through 12 months (contract completion bonus).  I am ultimately targeting sometime in March '08 to come home for good.  Although, anytime after October '07 is fair game.

I work for MNF-I, providing information assurance oversight for the networking infrastructure within theater.  Basically, an IT Security gig  for the military...including firewall management, web caching and filtering services, and some IDS "stuff".

Well I bet you make more than this (34 year old) college kid. I'm going for writing, so I'll most likely die face down and drunk in a gutter, but I would like to get one of my keyboards in a museum ...

Well, I'll be 37 next month.  Have three kids (7, 5, and 2 yrs) and a wife (of 11 years) back home.

I've owned a motorcycle pretty much constantly since I was 12 years old.  I currently have a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 that I bought new back in the fall of 2003.  I (along with my two older kids) am a karate student.  Assuming I return home next spring, I should get my black belt before the end of 2008.  I am a casual golfer.  I am a UNIX geek and an IT security professional.

And just how old is old as dirt? I'm 34, a college sophomore and proud of it.

woah. now that is a necro.

true story. imav was in his bunker in iraq once, sleeping in the top bunk of his quarters when a mortar hit the bunker dead on. the force of the explosion was so large it threw him out of his bed and onto the ground from about 6 feet up.

imav got up for a moment, then got back into bed and immediately went back to sleep.

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.
