Repairing my Cherry G80-8113
« on: Sat, 30 March 2013, 22:01:38 »
I've already posted on that other keyboard site about this, but for some reason I feel closer to the GH community, and I am in need of advice.

I have a Cherry G80-8113 that I shorted out with static electricity. My attempts to repair have failed. It is far past it's 3 year warranty. I could send it off to get repaired, but they charge $25 for diagnostic + repairs, and I only paid $50 for this.

The question is, where do I go from here? I currently don't have much spending cash for this project.

Option A: Get a Teensy and use that as the controller (thus changing to USB which is what I wanted)
Option B: Send it in for repairs. Even if I didn't pay much for it, it's worth it.
Option C: Sell it for parts (MX Browns worth much?), buy new when I can afford it.
Option D: Figure out some way to hook it up to the Cherry 601-2029 Rev3 board I have (attempts at this failed)
Option E: ???

Lastly, I just want you all to know this community is awesome, and I am in awe of some of the projects you guys have pulled off.
