Looking for an ISO Tenkeyless keyboard.
« on: Tue, 09 April 2013, 01:30:05 »
Hello all newguy here,

I have been using a Corsair K60 since September 2011, and loved it most of the time. The fact that it had a portion of dome keys didn't bother me that much, since I'm an FPS gamer I never use most of the F-keys anyways. So now after quite some time I'm looking for a new keyboard that has some of my preferred specifications.

As I said I'm an FPS player and I love a certain layout. I'm not sure what you call it, but it features a small left shift with a \ key next to it. As example of this picture. I like that, because I can control sprint, crouch and walk with my pinky.

So that is one of two things that the keyboard must have. The second thing is that it must be a small form factor. It's the only thing I don't like about the K60, it's the useless numpad that just takes up desk space.
The smaller the better, I would buy the KBC Poker, but as far as I know it doesn't feature the small left shift layout.

So with the 2 concerns out of the way I shall move on.

Even though I don't really need it that much, I like backlit keyboards. So if you're going to mention a keyboard please feel free to link the backlit version if there is one.
The switch is something very personal. The K60 uses red switches, but I'm pretty sure that browns are my favorite due to the tactile feedback.

I'm going to use a USB to PS/2 converter to plug in the keyboard, since I can't go into my BIOS without using PS/2 connectors. The K60 can't be converted to PS/2 due to the double USB connector. Even though I want PS/2 connection I don't care for NKRO, I find 6KRO to be more then enough, and can't think of a situation where someone would press more then 6 buttons at once.

Well that's pretty much all. I'm hoping for interesting suggestions and will eventually pick something that you experts recommend.

PS: I'm not a millionaire, so anything you suggest with a price tag that goes over the 150 or so mark, is something I most likely won't touch.

Thanks in advance! -Marcel

Thanks for the reply, I've checked the links and I really like the look of that backlit KBT pure.

Unfortunately they don't have a UK layout available yet, even though the website says 15th of March will release the UK ISO layout. Once that layout is available I'll most likely buy that one, since the Filco MINILA has a small spacebar, and I'm not really fond of that.

Anyways glad you could give me pointers. More suggestions always welcome

I have just started the journey into lurking forums to find  a new keyboard.

ISO POKER PRO
http://deskthority.net/photos-videos-f8/iso-poker-pro-t5163.html

This is the keyboard I came across, and people said it still needs to be released although I'm not sure when.

Ducky G2Pro Tenkeyless
http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/ducky-nordic-keyboards-keycaps-projects-and-misc-stuff-t4718.html

Same goes for this one. Not yet available in stores and their website http://ducky-nordic.com/ is not finished yet.

The reason why I like these 2 keyboards more, is because their spacebar is a bit bigger and the backspace is 2 keys wide, as opposed to the singular wide backspace on the KBT Pure Pro and Filco MINILA.

Does anyone have some more information about these 2 keyboard, and when they will be available in stores? Any of the two are good for me, but the price hopefully won't be too abnormal.

Cheers.

I have mentioned 4 keyboards above. That is wrong with other two?

The GH60 is a bit expensive for the total price, and the TEX keyboard doesn't have ISO layout as far as the pictures show.

The KBT Pure Pro is still my choice for now. Unless I get some info about the KBC Poker Pro's release date

They will have an ISO version of the Tex Beetle according to the Datasheets on Google Docs. Drill down to the UK version.

That ISO layout is also the one I prefer (long backspace, long space). Is there any price info about that model? It's not in the document.

Not that specific model but the ANSI versions are currently priced at ~$140.

Couple of things about that price though:
     1. MechanicalKeyboards.com hasn't received them yet, so the price is subject to change. Import taxes, etc.

     2. The Beetle features an aluminum top and plate mounted switches. Pokers were selling for $100, so $40 extra for a metal case and plate explains the cost differential.
