One other thought:  DSA retro was ABS double shot so everyone who wanted that type of caps has probably ordered them.  I think doing a DSA PBT dye-sub run has a better chance of getting more orders since it won't be just a change in colors.

I don't think SP is doing regular orders in PBT 2-shots. (yet!)

One thing that was really nice about the DSA retro set was the adaptability of the set choices.  That's crucial for me - I'm only doing custom layouts so if I can't get a full set of 1.5 width keys, I'm not interested.  DSA retro GB included:

- alpha set included home keys for qwerty, dvorak, and colemak and single width \ key (retro kit 1)
- modifiers set included 1.25 and 1.5 width ctrl, alpha, caps lock, 1.75 shift (retro kit 2 & 3)
- separate modifier kits for 1.0, 1.25, and 1.5 widths include all the keys you need in custom layouts like ergodox (alt, return, shift, backspace, etc) (retro kit 7, 8 and 9).
- blanks in various sizes (1, 1.5, 2 width) and colors

So I'd vote for just repeating the DSA retro kit group buy scheme with a change in colors.  Prices were reasonable and the flexibility means more people might be willing to buy in.

^this^

Agreed. I'm in!

if you go ABS, trust me, WCK+GAW is a better combo! ( http://lab.cubiq.org/kbcc/#WCK,NN,GAW,NN ) You can't really understand how the colors go together from the very badly calibrated pictures taken by SP.

Yep, this is the one to go for.  Problem is finding someone who can pull this Group Buy off successfully with no problems or difficulties.

Plus someone people can trust 100% without question.

Well the retro buy went so well (and quickly), I'd say you should offer it as a service and charge 3-5% across the board for your time.  At least for me, I'd rather spend an extra $5 and have everything run smoothly and get orders out in a reasonable amount of time.

Yes, that is exactly what we would do - same kits, same everything, only this time diff colors and PBT.

Yep, it is hard to judge what those colors look like in real life.
WCK+GAW looks nice. It was my first choice. Look very retro, Amiga like keys:)

No problem, thanks. Unfortunately I won't have time to do this (full time job, external projects and family :'()
but hopefully someone will take this over so we could go GB.

Matteo,
How much time do you think a GB like retro DSA takes to administer?

A LOT! Especially if you have 200+ orders from all over the world.

OK, so we established what we want - DSA PBT dye-sub key caps, color WCK+GAW, all same kits as Retro DSA GB we already had.

Now, who's gonna run it? Any volunteers?

there's a tiny problem. we don't have spacebars in PBT... spacebar would be ABS and I don't know if we can match the color.

OTD matched it pretty well when they made this set a few years back

we can always ask SP to match color for ABS spaces

yes, that should be feasible but it takes a lot of time to get plastics (more than 1 month I think?!)

gonna ask SP about it. let's see what they say.

we already had permission for the stepped key for DSA retro, hopefully that won't be an issue

Good to hear! I know of issues with other groups sadly

If we can get a windowed stepped caps in this buy also that would be great, though I know that might not be feasible

so it seems GMK can't do PBT. If I can't handle this from EU I believe I can't take care of the GB. Anyway I'm going to ask a quote for an ABS set from GMK just out of curiosity.

I am a little worried this one may not happen.  DSA Retro, now the DSA Dolch, not sure there is enough interest for another one.  I really hope I'm wrong of course...

For some the color might be the deciding factor.

The brown of Retro did not appeal to me.

The recent Dolch almost did, but I think I would prefer a more traditional keycap shape for the Dolch solours.

This one ... maybe ...

don't nuke Melissa with emails. we already know more or less what this is going to cost (look at dsa retro or dolch). what we are trying to solve here is: layout, materials, colors and logistics.

if this DSA is going to be PBT dyesub, I guess the keycaps will be thinner than the DSA double shots right?

I will definitely buy it! Btw early Amiga keyboards (NMB Space Invader Linears, used in earlier version of A500 from the OP) had indeed PBT Dye Sub keycaps, even space bars being PBT, although they were not sphericals. I can borrow you actual caps if you want to get the color scheme absolutely right.

I didn't know that, thanks:) I had Amiga for a short period ages ago, but never thought to check the caps.
I'm sure DSA would look awesome on Amiga nowadays ;D

P.S.

I'd be interested as long as the numpad has a 00 for my Filco tenkey. Cream and grey would also be a nice scheme.
