Options to remap Fn to Windows key (Filco Camo)?
« on: Tue, 04 June 2013, 13:28:47 »
I know that Filco swapped the Camo TKL Function and Windows keys, so that the Win key is now on the right side, and it's hardware-bound, but is there any way of swapping those two keys without changing the controller board?

Direct wiring maybe?

Direct wiring maybe?

That's how I would probably do it too. Cut the traces and run some wires.

You could always get a stock Filco controller from someone who's replaced theirs with an HID Liberator. Furthermore, you could replace it entirely with a HID Liberator. :D

Hrm, ok, I'll have to see how it looks.  I'll probably leave it be, as it's not a major inconvenience.  Just very used to using Win + something for shortcuts using my left hand.

Stock Filco controller sounds excellent!  Mostly because I don't need to do anything more than that and I'm happy with the standard layout.  So it's definitely a matter of controller only? (in the case of Filco Camo)--not some other physical hardwiring?

This was the one reason I didn't buy a filco camo. I liked the media keys, but I use my left windows key all day long.

My solution: buy a regular filco, and bought some stock filco camo keys from someone in the classified section. I just used a simple autohotkey script to make the FN key (which is actually placed where the appskey should be on the right side of the keyboard) + Function key map to the respective media function. Works like a charm.

The FN key on that (and almost all other) boards are hardware-layer, meaning you can't actually access/remap the key using software. You will have to cut traces/rewire as suggested if you actually want to do it that way.

IMO, if you want the filco camo looks with the left windows key, just buy a filco camo case/keycaps from someone, and put them on a regular filco board.

Good luck.

Already got the Filco Camo.  It was not a big enough deal to deter me from buying it, and the price was great.  I'd just like to know what my options are with remapping those two keys.  I don't have too much of a problem using the right-side "Win" key while touch typing--just a matter of habit to do it the normal way.  If I can solve it with a controller change, I'd like to do that at some point.
