IBM Keyboard VERY Rare APL Type
« on: Tue, 25 June 2013, 21:21:27 »
I guess it's the stickers on the keys that make this Model M worth an extra $100?  :))

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Keyboard-VERY-Rare-APL-Type-/221245180416

P.S. I hate that I've mostly only been finding ironic things to post in this subforum.

i have a set of the new run (i believe the only set printed on caps pearl/pebble with a metallic sparkly additive), and the APL legends are most definitely dyesubbed on.

They have re-listed this keyboard a few times. It's always good for a chuckle.

Other things to note: look at the shaved off ] key! (easily visible in the second picture)
The above was mentioned in the previous listing, but I notice it's absent on this one.

the best way to get these things quickly is to show that there is demand and pledge money toward product. start a ticket, request things they can produce: APL legends on standard keysets for example, and red legends on white/pebble sets is another then buy them up as soon as they run them.

Ouch!  Why would someone do that to a keycap?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well it wouldn't have fit otherwise.
The question is: where did he get a stepped 1.25(or 1.5? hard to tell) ] key in the first place; an XT?

I think they are transparent stickers glued on top of the key caps, or on the front side. And they are not APL !  I'm looking at my IBM APL I'm typing on now and they are not the same symbols.

Does Unicomp actually still sell the APL keys? They did quite a few years ago, but I can't find them anywhere on their site now that I actually want a set...

Open a ticket in their system. They have/sell a lot of stuff which is not on their page.

I wish that eBay would finally let shoppers comment on listings like every other shopping web site out there.  The problem is, nobody would buy anything from them after they read the comments.  Oh, well.
