Whites are quieter.

Blues are clicky, I know from experience that if you're on a conference call, the other people on the call can hear you typing.  Not sure how much background noise you'll have in a classroom setting, though.

You might get some dirty looks for using blues in a class, I'd recommend any other switch for that. If you want to click but be quieter about it, whites are perfect for that, though they have a much higher actuation force than blues.

You really think there's a difference in sound between non-stickered and stickered Whites? I always laughed at stickers so I've never actually stickered any of my switches.

There aren't stickers for MY switches, that's why we laugh. There is no need when they're already amazing.

Even a white will have the cherry "top out noise" which isn't as bad, but still noticeable. It all depends on what you feel like using in class. This top out noise  can be alleviated somewhat with a change of typing habits.

they aren't necessary better or worse.  they just dont have the high pitched tick that blues have.  Its not quite as tactile as a blue or green switch but more so than browns.  its all preference.

qwerkeys has a sampler pack with whites now and i see you're in europe so shipping wouldnt be so bad.

I wouldn't recommend a mech keyboard for class personally.  I feel like any of them will make too much noise.  Not to mention the extra space you would take up.

There's no switch that is "better" for gaming. It's all personal preference. The better statement should say, "It's better for me to play on X switch".

I prefer playing video games on heavier switches: Greens, and Whites. Buckling Spring isn't bad to me either; gaming on my SSK was fun. The Blues on my Orbweaver are ok but I think I'm going to mod them to something heavier.

Blues are fine for gaming, as well are browns, blacks, reds....

ANY switch is fine for gaming in my eyes as I've used them all for gaming and never had a problem. From RTS to FPS, I've never felt inhibited by the switch I'm using, be it a Cherry switch, Topre switch, or what have you. If you want a click that's somewhat quieter, go for whites. If you want a light switch with a click, go for blues, unless you want a light quiet switch, then take whites and put black springs in them. Otherwise, stick to a linear or tactile cherry switch like browns or clears, (Ergo-Clears would be even better).

I don't believe each mx switch has different usage. I think it is all up to your preference.
Anyway, I don't know how noisy your class is. I have used IBM model M at my office for long time since there were many other people typing on model Ms.
If the class is silent quiet, Blue is not a your best bet. In the circumstance, even brown make you feel like too noisy.
If I were you, I'd go with black or red.

If you really want quiet mechanical switches, the Jailhouse Blues mod and Matias Quiet Alps are your best bet imo.

I think clears, for me at least are fairly quiet but in a really quiet class, especially depending on size and what other are using, you probably need to go for near silent if possible. I think the matias quiet switches would accomplish this and I have not tried the jailhouse blues that captain mentioned.

The problem with reds I think would be bottoming out noise, black would be hit or miss.

I do not really get the "this switch is better for gaming" thing.

I mean , in different games you are looking for entirely different characteristics. Also, when it comes to switches, the difference in actual performance is so minimal that the most important thing is personal preference. That is why you see people using different keyboards and switches even at the top of the competitive gaming scene of both FPS and RTS. That basically means that it is all viable at any level of gaming.

Look at ninjas in pyjamas in the CS:GO scene. They all use blacks. Then look at mousesports, they all use blues. The reason? That is what their sponsor makes (Steelseries and Razer respectively). None of them has had a considerable difference in their games when they got sponsored, meaning they did well with what they used before, and do well now with anything semi-decent they are provided with.

Also, I think all standard mechanical switches I have used (blue, brown, black red) are too loud for class if you bottom out, o-rings or not. But that is just how I feel about it. May be partly subjective, since different people have different tolerances for noise. I would not feel comfortable using them in class, and I would not like someone next to me using them.

I would stick with pen/paper, but that's also because from my experience I spend a lot of time goofing off if I have my laptop open in class and I don't actually learn much.  Also because not every class will have enough room for your laptop and keyboard, or even an outlet for your laptop.

Topre silenced yes, but any other topre board is rather loud on the upstroke if you are typing at any reasonable pace. I'd say my non-silenced topre boards are louder than my friends reds & browns, but that's just me.

I teach, so I spend a lot of time in class. I had a work-group of 2nd year bachelor students. In some of the classes they had to work for themselves for 25-20 min before I would discuss their work with them. If no one needed my assistance I typed on a chiclet style laptop keyboard. I hate those things, but they are pretty quiet. I know for certain that if I used any of my regular keyboards it would be too noisy, especially if the room is relatively small.

It could be that I'm in an office right now surrounded by membrane heathen which are quite silent compared to my 103, but I feel like topre is just as loud sometimes on the upstroke, especially from that spacebar.

'nother thing. my room is right next to my parent's one, and my pc sists at about 2 mts from the door(not exactly a dore, more like a hole in the wall), which means 3 meters from their bed. sometimes (pretty often) i gotta use the pc while they sleep, and i'm worried that blue's click could wake dem up...any1 who uses whites could tell me if their click is hearable at taht distance, or if i have to get browns?

I taught some quiz sections and classes at university and I can tell you if one of my students brought a keyboard with Blues to class, I would kill them.  Well, not really, but I'd ask them to refrain from using the keyboard.  It's just too distracting and loud when I'm trying to teach and I know it's distracting to the other students in the room.
