I've brought my Minitouch with Montereys to class a few times but was wary of typing with any speed during the lecture.

Kind of over the whole, bringing a keyboard with my laptop thing because I'm usually not in one class for more than an hour, if I'm going to get any work done I'll do it on my setup at home/ work.

'nother thing. my room is right next to my parent's one, and my pc sists at about 2 mts from the door(not exactly a dore, more like a hole in the wall), which means 3 meters from their bed. sometimes (pretty often) i gotta use the pc while they sleep, and i'm worried that blue's click could wake dem up...any1 who uses whites could tell me if their click is hearable at taht distance, or if i have to get browns?

I a mechanical keyboard will wake them up then either you should relearn some typing habits or they need to learn to sleep with a fan in the room as the white noise will allow them to sleep through much higher noise levels.  It is also a great trick for getting baby's to learn to sleep through general noise throughout the house during naps.  I have never woken up my 6 month old daughter or my 4 year old son with my Das with browns and no o-rings and I type fairly heavy and always bottom out the keys.  I know this is a side effect of typing on domes for so many years.  But they have always had a fan going in their bedroom.

I watched it on my phone, so that option isn't visible for me. I'll definitely re-watch it with subtitles.

Seriously, if you don't want to buy Topre and are worried about sound, look into Matias Quiet switches or do a Jailhouse Blues mod. I wasn't joking.

Matias Quiet Switches can be had for pretty cheap. The board is like $120 or so. Not horrible.

Jailhouse blue mod can be done for under $30 from what I understand. It's just time consuming.

Neither of those options are as expensive as a Topre board. But whatever you like.

As someone who teaches college classes...YES. Blues are DEFINITELY too noisy. They will piss off your classmates, they will pass off the professor/instructor, there just is no real upside.

In a small enough class, you can ask. But if the class gets to be larger than about 10...fuggedaboutit.

there just is no real upside.

Upside is preferred typing feel, of course. But the negatives definitely outweigh the positives.

Another thing to consider is: what if everyone brought a mechanical keyboard.

Would anyone be able to hear the lecturer?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Sometimes I get annoyed at just myself typing with blues, so I couldn't imagine an entire classroom. Thankfully there's closed canned headphones

My school gives out macbooks to everyone. You'd be surprised at how loud some people bang on their keys.
