EVERYONE REPORT EXITFIRE FOR CHEATING

ANYONE WHO WINS BESIDES ME IS A CHEATER

So you're saying that they don't have an advantage? They can have the reply window all pre-loaded in another screen (the lock doesn't apply to them), refresh the page in another window and then hit post as soon as it's unlocked. Hardly seems fair to us mortals.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Is there a log somewhere that would show what time CF unlocked the thread?

I think Clack should start saying "the 4th person that posts" or some random something that might make it more luck and less latency (or something more sinister ).

Does anybody know how the reply button unlock works?

When I refreshed I saw this, and I couldn't reply until my slow internet refreshed again, at which it was GG

Show Image

While waiting for my browser to post, I went on my other one and refreshed the page. Clack's reply to post was up, but no reply button, then after a quick load on another tab, I saw the same as above (just not in that order, diff forum settings).

So does SMF have an option for thread starters to "tick" to unlock the post, while simultaneously posting, or do you have to unlock after?

Like I said, it might show up for you before everyone else.  That's why so many of us saw your post before we even had the chance to reply.

Maybe mods should talk to Clack or something and use an alt account, that way any advantage you have is gone.

That would be cool, mix it up a bit.

I definitely saw exitfires post well before I had a quick reply box. It takes me about 800ms to load the page and I got a couple reloads in after seeing exitfires post before I had the option of replying.

Exactly...we're talking about a difference of hundredths of a second here...had it been a full half of a second or even a full second, I would understand

Well, as for mods, I know I and a couple of others are already out after this. Obviously too much drama with this sale, and frankly, past this, it's not worth my time. I was in the right place at the right time today.

That's been every time I have seen CC post there. At least 2 replies before my refresh shows the reply button while others are already posting. I don't think that a latency thing because shouldn't the thread update globally?

No one was jumping down your throat until you became dismissive.  I just noticed that your post was up before I even saw a reply button of any kind and others had the same experience.  It felt like mod magic.   It's why I never enter any contests, giveaways, or anything of the sort on /r/buildapc.  It's too easy to be accused of impropriety.  It's not worth it.

It's all moot though unless Clack decides to redo it, which I doubt he will.

Anyways:

I always forget why I have a love hate relationship with these until it's sale time.
