FMJ Aluminum Poker Case Group Buy (closed)
« on: Thu, 15 August 2013, 12:50:59 »
Round 2 is finally here. There're two news regarding this round. First, the base version is no longer available, so for this round we only have premuim version. Second, this is the last chance getting design #1 and design #2 from FMJ. After this group buy, they will be not make anything for 60% keyboards in the near future. The deadline for this GB is March 10th.

A friend of mine recently just started making his own keyboard-related products. The aluminum poker case is just our first step. We will present a lot more interesting things for keyboard lovers in the future. Our brand name is called FMJ (Full Metal Jacket). We will mostly focus on metallic materials to make keyboards, keycaps, etc., but not entirely.

As for this group buy, we have two different designs as discussed in my vendor form. Each design has its own unique elements.

Design #1 is what we are trying to simplify the most. It has no characteristics designs like Design #2. It basiclly fits most people's tastes. It also has thin frame - as you can see, it's thinner than most metallic cases on the market. One of the best parts is that it has brass poker weights on the bottom side.

31838-031840-131842-231844-331846-431848-531853-631855-731857-831861-9

Design #2 is where we put some unique and creative factors into. We were looking for some really strong engraving lines and angles that make it look like a fighting robot or something. This design originally doesn't come with brass poker weights because of its high CNC costs. But you can still have the brass poker weights on this design by adding $50.

31863-1031865-1131867-1231869-1331871-1431873-1531875-16

Other than designs, we also have two versions available including Base Version and Premium Version.

Base Version comes with regular anodizing, brass poker weights and uses aluminum #6061 T651.

Premium Version comes with hard anodizing, brass poker weights and uses aluminum #7075 T651.

For those who are not familiar with hard anodizing: hard anodizing is much firmer than regular anodizing. It prevents scratches very well. Even if you scratch the surface wih a coin, it leaves nothing on the surfac. Hard anodizing also makes the colors look deeper.

We have 7 colors for base version and 8 colors for premium version.

Regular Anodization: Silver, Grey, Red, Blue, Green, Gold, Purple

Hard Anodization: Black, Titanium-Grey, Grey, Red, Blue, Green, Gold, Purple

This case is compatible with Poker,Poker II, Pure, Pure Pro and GH60.

You also get to decide whether or not you want the engraving FMJ Logo on the left side for design #1 or on the bottom for design #2 as shown in the following pics:

Really nice case, but my wallet forces me to pass on this one :(

Quick question Feng:

Will TKL cases get some love again in the future?

There's different aluminum alloys which probably affects how the anodization takes.

In other words, 6061 =/= 7075

I didn't even realize those numbers were referring to the aluminum material, thanks for clarifying.

Looks like you can hard anodize 6061 though.

Aluminum 6061 is a softer alloy with magnesium and silicon in it. Aluminum 7075 is a harder alloy with zinc in it. According to some books I have at work, the hard-anodization in 6061 can vary in finish while in 7075, it varies much less. Seems like feng is trying to get a better anodization finish and that's why 7075 is being hard anodized while 6061 is only being color or dye anodized.

Yes but the thickness of the anodization layer in what you're showing me is .001 less so the anodization quality won't be as good.

Ah, okay. That would make more sense then. I knew it was softer, but it would be nice to get hard anodization on the 6061 since it's more prone to corrosion than 7075.

Pretty sure in the environments your keyboards are in, you'll get bored of the keyboard before your case corrodes. But as always, I could be wrong.

Haha! I think you're right... Unless you live in the jungle or something... but then you're computer would also be at risk.

I guess I would also want it for the scratch protection feng mentioned, but you also mentioned a good point that it's max thickness is 0.001" less than 7075's.

I think the regular anodized finish would work well enough for me.

From what I can tell, you can get design 1 with the brass poker weights or design 2 without poker weights for the same price with either finish/material. You'll have to add $50 if you want the poker weights.

What does adding brass poker weights to design #2 mean?
It's mean add the brass weights to the bottom of design#2 just like #1?
Or it will have separate weights? or something else?
I can confuse on this

I asked feng about this previously. It means adding brass weights similar to those in Design #1 to the case in Design #2. According to him, the weights only add a total of 80g though. Just thought I should state that for anyone who was hoping they's add a substantial amount of weight (like me :'()

Still isn't going stop me from getting at least one of these bad boys though.

Edit: Feng could we have weight estimates for both the designs?

only 80g?  that seems a little bit light.
I like both of the design, but since the brass are only 80g, maybe it is not that useful. And it is at the bottom of the keyboard, which you won't see it when you are using it.. may be should go for the design#2

Yeah I don't know if he made a mistake with that estimate but one has to remember that material has to be removed from the case before putting the weights in so that's why the net change ends up being only 80g?

It looks like the duck poker recreation that one guy posted a while back.
Can you confirm whether it is the same person?
Also, is this an almost similar design, or has the dimensions been reworked with?

Case in point
