Cherry 1800 question

Hi all,

A long time ago, I had a Cherry keyboard. All I remember was that the model number included 1800. At the time, I didn't know anything more about Cherry than that they were a German keyboard manufacturer. I didn't know that they also made the keyswitches, let alone that they made more than one type.

Now, I see that there is the G80-1800 and the G81-1800.

In trying to search GH for info, am I correct that G80 = Cherry MX and G81 = Cherry MY?

And if so, would the Cherry MX version be Cherry MX black? I'd like to get another, but don't want to end up with blues, browns, reds, etc? Did they even use any of the other MX switches in the 1800?

Correct G80 = MX, G81 = MY.
G80 may contain Black but also Brown, Clear or Blue just as well, it depends on version.

Current G80-1800s have Cherry MX Black switches. Earlier models and special variations have several types of Cherry MX switches. For instance, the Cherry G80-1865 has Cherry MX Brown.
