ANSI layout for typing spanish?
« on: Sun, 25 August 2013, 14:05:11 »
Hi!

I'm from Spain but i would like to learn to use ANSI layout, i want to buy my next board with ansi layout but i first i would like to know what would be the best way to write vowels with accent (á é í ó ú) and ñ on ANSI keyboards.

I'm thinking poker II or pure pro, can i configure/program those in some way i can type key + vowel or key + n for the ñ?
Or it would take 3 or more keys? (i mean using ANSI layout)

Thanks!

Hi !

I use ansi keyboards to type french and it works great. With US international settings in the OS (Win or Mac) you can get any accents : ', `, or ~ for example are dead keys for è you type ` then e.
if you want only ` then type ` then space.

It's a little more tricky as for example ` then p gives `p.

But I guess you can type any special characters spanish needs.

ñ, Ñ, or even á, é, í, ó, ú, ç

Hope I helped !

ANSI keyboards only differs from ISO in the number and placement of keycaps. If you plug in an ANSI keyboard your computer will not know the difference in the supposed function of the keys. That means the key next to L will put out ñ and your dead accent works exactly as it normally would even though the keycap may have ;: on it. You'll have to move the functions of one key to other keys or get rid of them altogether which can be done with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator for example. The dead accent will still be located in its normal place.

It works the same basically except that you have one key less, its the same principle when typing swedish on ANSI.
