Any other guitar players in here? Here's a shot of the axes I keep at home.

1. 2011 USA John Mayer Signature Fender Stratocaster
2. 2006 Japan ESP Horizon FRII in Transparent Black
3. 1989 USA BC Rich Warlock Prototype

For amps I use mainly my Hughes & Kettner Triamp. No pictures of it right now as it's in the studio. Can't really use a 100 watt tube amp at home, lol. At home I just run everything through a 30 watt Laney.

Lets see your gear!  :D

I have an LTD M-II Elite and I love it.  It's an LTD that is made in the same Japanese shop as the "true" ESPs, at less than half of the cost, with non-licensed parts (Floyd Rose, Gotohs, EMGs)

I live in an apartment so I can't really get into any meatier amps - I just have a 15w Line 6 Spider IV, which works great for reasonable volume jamming.  I think I will eventually just move over to a PC based rig as most of my playing is along with CDs or learning other artists songs.

I'll get a pic of my guitar when I get a chance (and can wipe all the fingerprints off of it), here is the photo from the ESP site:

Nice guitars guys.

I've used LTD's a lot before in the past when I was gigging on a regular basis. Great sound for a great price, and they're very reliable for live shows. I have an LTD EC-1000 which I use for gigs - sadly it's in the studio right now so I don't have any pictures of it. Bottom line is that I don't use any really expensive or rare guitars live anymore as I don't want them to get damaged or stolen. My 1982 Les Paul was stolen so that taught me a lesson for sure.

I bought that one for my dad years ago. But it lives on the wall with my guitars ;) I have a few others not worth taking photos of. Epiphone acoustic, a Degas 12-string and a 6 string Ampeg electric guitar.

How do you like your JM strat?  I'm a huge fan of his Continuum-era stuff and was considering picking up that strat once I have the cash for it, just didn't know if the quality justified the price tag.

Love it. I'm not really a fan of his music, but I had to have the guitar. It doesn't sound like your typical Strat that much, it has a lot more midrange to it. It's made well and sounds good. I think they go for around $1500 or something like that. Not that bad actually.

i've got a gibson melody maker II that looks like this in worse shape:

it's weird - 24 frets, single coils, fender style trem. i took the damn thing off. plays like a dream but could use a setup. i really like that it's small and light but the neck isn't as unbalanced as an SG.

i also have an electra 335 knockoff that i love.

planning on getting a bass soon... i really want a EBMM stingray but i don't know if i can afford one right now :(

If you don't like the pups on your guitar just change them out. It's the first thing I do when I get a new guitar, with the exception of my ESP. I loved the stock pups in that.

And out of those, I'd go for the Vox. But they all sound pretty different, Fender will have those gorgeous clean tones if you're into that sort of thing. But overall I'd go with the AC30.

I would love to own a Stingray at some point in the future. You can get so many sounds switching through pickup settings on the HH it is ridiculous, but you probably already knew that.
Would you get a standard Stingray or an HH for more variety?

not really sure yet.. HH would be cool but i cant really justify it since it would be the first bass i've ever bought. i had one in the past but i've mostly used other peoples' basses.

Yea i'm somewhat leaning towards to AC30. Any of you guys have experience with them hooked up to a pedal board loop? in particular, any issues with signal strength/humming?

Haha I used a mixture of both when I played with my metal band, pick cuts through way better on some songs!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

(Pay no attention to the rifle, this thread's about guitars damnit).

Putting together the hardware right now for a custom Strandberg-inspired 8-string put together by my brother, who also did the artwork with a heat knife before finishing the wood.

Started shielding the pickup cavity

Found an 8-string Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion for the pickup, too. w00t!

^That 8-string looks amazing. I bought this bass a couple days ago and it is wonderful, except for the weight. The sounds that I can get out of that pickup make it worth it though.
Has anyone else added to their gear collections over the past few months since this thread died down?

25.5 " scale maple neck with ebony fretboard, graphite nut and Sperzel locking tuners
Hardtail, through body stringing with Graphtech string saddles
Duncan '59 humbucker in bridge and stock Carvin AP11 single coils

daerid, that 8-string is sick! Love it!

I have a few guitars. Ibanez SR506 6-string bass, Cort GB-25 5-string bass, Samick 12-string acoustic, Walden 12-string acoustic and a 1973 Ibanez 2350 custom electric. I have partially "modernised" the 2350 (Di Marzio pickups, pots, knobs, pickup covers, pickup mounts, Graphtech nut, Gotoh bridge, tuners and tailpiece), but it's all reversible and I've kept the original parts.

any recommendations for 6x10 (or 6x10 sized) bass cabs? i know ampeg is the go-to but i want to keep my options open since i'm definitely going used and want to get a good deal.

I highly recommend you try out a Greenboy design cab (fEARful and fEARless range) if you get a chance. I built a fEARful 15/6/1 and it's a BEAST. They tend to be fairly pricey when buying from an authorised builder, but they're well worth the money. Cured my cabinet GAS permanently.

Here's a quote from the FAQ: "A 15/6 is as loud as most 310 cabs with one watt input, and more extended in response. With a lot of watts it can get as loud or louder than a 610 driven to its limits, and will sound fuller and more responsive while doing it."

If you have some very basic idea of which way around a saw goes you could build your own, too. I used a handsaw, drill, electric jigsaw for the cutouts, some clamps and a hammer to build mine. The 3015LF driver was the most expensive part, they're getting quite rare due to the neodymium shortage.

If I were to do it again, I would actually build a 12/6/1 with Alpha mid driver, the 15/6/1 is more than I need and the 12/6/1 can be built a little bit cheaper. Plenty of volume, small and light and easy to transport. Can do duty as a PA or keyboard cab, too :)

The plans are free:
http://greenboy.us/fEARful/
http://greenboy.us/fEARful/DL/

The fEARless range are authorised builder only, though.

Here's a nice article on them: http://vpub.boyd-printing.com/publication/?i=118550&p=54

The graphs are a little outdated now, though, since there is a new 3-way crossover design that eliminates the spike around 4kHz for the 15/6/1 and gives smoother response on both size designs.

Now that I actually have the 8 string put together, I'll see about putting up a pic later tonight.

My next purchase is definitely going to be a LP Studio Pro, probably this baby:

Of course, if I had an extra 5 grand to toss around, I'd pick one of these up:

LP Standards are the best. Tried them all. The Deluxe's and stuff are pretty much a waste of money and don't even sound like a LP due to having different woods, etc.

I do. What kind of problems are you having? Where do you need help?

Edit : Watch this, it'll help -

When changing strings on a Floyd, be sure to do it one at a time unless the neck needs maintenance and/or deep cleaning.

Agreed... But coming from a prospective builder's perspective more than a player's. All current Gibby's except the Standard and the custom shop examples have the short neck tenon. Here is a bit of a horror pic to illustrate why that may not be an awesome thing:

This is just one example of the fact that you get a whole lot less than what you pay for with most Gibsons nowadays.

For some, they sound good enough and the name is enough to sell the guitar. For others, you have to search long and hard to find one that both feels and plays right for you.

I'm very happy with my "cheap" ripoff copy (the '73 Ibanez 2350 Custom), thank you very much. Got it for a steal, too. Almost literally. I lent out my Strat copy which got "misplaced" and the borrower replaced it with this for me. Wouldn't replace it with anything from Gibson's current lineup except perhaps for a custom shop job.

I used to have a really rad collection of late 80's/early 90's Ibanez guitars. I only believed in blue guitars with maple fretboards. I sold them all a while back and got a PRS CU24 which I haven't managed to get a good picture of. Kind of regret it

If you're looking at Suhr's, also take a look at Tom Anderson guitars, they're just as good if not better than Suhr, heavily debated. What kind of specs are you looking for and what kind of amp are ya playing out of?

A JTM45+ would be fun as hell to build, excellent amps. If you didn't want to mess around with putting stuff together, I'd keep an eye peeled on craigslist for a Plexi, like a 1987x/JMP little 50w. It's a little more aggressive, better crunch from the solid state rectifier. Either way you'd be pretty set with either. What kind of music do you jam out to?

Also.. I'm expecting a high quality amp tomorrow.. So I thought I'd make some high quality cables :D

bar chords are a ***** and a half, there's no real way to get around it. What I found helps is to use light strings (on electrics I would use .8's, those are the lightest you can find most places) and then just work my finger strength up from there. Another solution to that, if they're still to heavy or you don't want to get new strings, is to tune a half step lower. From there you can gradually increase your string gauge/ tune normally.

Here's a pic of my guitars. Charvel CX291 MIJ on the left, I think those ran during the 90's and were lower end guitars. Ibanez RG7621 '99 on the right, MIJ as well. It's been heavily modded and isn't in the greatest shape but most of the damage was done to the body which doesn't affect playability too badly. Still sounds fantastic and plays like a dream.

Nice choice, mate. I have a Custom Shop Agile AL3100/Les Paul. Made with all the specs I'd ever want out of a Les Paul type guitar. Really excellent guitar for the value, can't say enough good things about it. Even the stock pickups are decent. I usually swap everything out for EMGs, but I left the stock ones in.

Looks like they opened up the custom shop all the time now? I got mine back in 2011-2012 where they just randomly opened it up and you had to stumble on it. Painful wait, but it was only about $468

Hot damn! Now that's a deal. I may need a baritone 6 sooner than I thought.
I've seen at points they only offered certain models, but it looks like all of them are fair game at the moment.
Sweet guitar, btw. Which pickups did you go with?

Aw damn, they let you choose a whole lot more options now! Mine are just the stock Alnico V pickups, there was no choice at the time.

Wow. They've come a long way with the options since then. I've heard their pickups are pretty good. I'm probably going to get the Cepheus Passives on my next guitar from them.
