it was mistake? or i was cheated? ibm model m2 question
« on: Wed, 04 September 2013, 13:19:18 »
hey guys n girls.

as in topic today i received ibm model m2 bought on ebay.

precise description was "VINTAGE IBM CLICKY MECHANICAL KEYBOARD MODEL M2 WP1 PS/2, TWO TONE, TESTED WORKS".

but it doesn't give feedback neither click. Worst thing was when i did poped up keycap and saw rubber ......... as u can see on pictures below.

my question before i make case to ebay (and seller). i made mistake? i mean m2 should be build on BS right? only lighter springs? i don't wanna make fool of myself so wanna to verify with u guys before i make any steps further.......

I would raise a stink, description was misleading. It did say "M2" but it certainly isnt clicky, so you were confused by the sellers careless title. I would even file a dispute if the seller doesnt let you return it. The worst that happen is that you lose and have to keep the board.

i will do that for sure but my question is......... Does normal ibm model m2 is build on buckling springs?

Im not an IBM expert but I thought the M2 has buckling springs but was a smaller board with a shorter throw. Im not really sure what you have there actually... but in any case the description is wrong.

There was a M2 RD version, but the board you got is neither clicky nor mechanical, so misleading description.

Although the model number you have is not on Wikipedia, I guess that Model M2s that have model numbers that start with a 7 are RD boards, at least every RD board noted there has one and there is no non-RD board that has a model number that starts with a seven.

Unfortunately, there are some that were made with rubber domes. The 73G4614 was used with early Aptivas, and 60G0817 was another M2 with rubber domes. Avoid ones with a removable plastic border, as those have rubber domes.

Try and look for a 1395300, which is what was used with the PS/1. 60G3570, 42H0468,  and 1395900 I think were also ones with buckling springs, but don't quote me on it.

As far as your issue, I would talk to the seller, since it is most certainly not a mechanical keyboard.

from my experience...........unless the item being sold says "as is" i have been able to recoup my money from the seller without anybody, but you have to pick up shipping.

also from experience if you cannot resolve with seller, then proceed to open a dispute expect to offer up evidence you were misguided proving the seller was misleading, etc. and then will have wait for a decision where "ebay" will forcibly get your money from the seller and refund.

took about 4-5 weeks on mine if i recall

i thought i had a g80-18xx one time (had 1.5 mods, etc.), but the label on the back was rubbed off and it was really a g81

The seller wont cover your shipping they never do, and you dont get a refund until they get the board back.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)
