Keycool 84 - Blacks + o-rings = no difference?
« on: Wed, 11 September 2013, 07:17:08 »
Hey guys, made a post the other day asking if o-rings would affect my typing experience, if so, how etc.

So the o-rings finally came and tbh, it feels no different when typing or even touching the keys, I put a few of the o-rings onto a mx cherry red board that I have and you can feel the different right away, but on blacks? I cannot seem to tell the difference what so ever. The sound is dampened ever so slightly, but it's hard to really notice a change.

The o-rings that I got where:

70a-0.2em black o-rings.

Has anybody else used o-rings on blacks and experienced this also?

my guess is since the blacks have more resistance to your push, you were barely bottoming out to begin with, so adding a ~2mm o-ring you probably are just barely hitting it and that is why it sounds slightly quieter, but with reds you were bottoming out all the way due to the light spring so adding o rings makes a difference. just my 2 cents.

What is a "70a-0.2em" o-ring?  I'm guessing 70a is the hardness in Shore A and that "em" is supposed to read "cm"?  So, 70 Shore A hardness and 0.2 cm thick?

Are they the same boards?

Use the same keycap on both and see if it makes the same difference or not...
