MX-BOARD G80-3600LYC or MX-BOARD G80-3600LXC ?
« on: Fri, 19 December 2008, 22:09:29 »
Hi!

I live in Japan and I a newbie when it comes to keyboard, I've never thought there were types of keys and some other stuff I am not familiar with that actually exists for a keyboard.

I have been trying to search the web for information regarding keyboards and I barely found anything useful at all except this forum.

I will be using the keyboard for gaming, and I really need fast/light(not too light) keystrokes and keyboards who would allow me to press 5 keys at the same time. The game is called starcraft, if you've seen people play it you'll probably realize why keyboard is important. Pro gamers press keys for around 300 times in a min. They're choice of keyboard is the Samsung SEM-DT35, i'm not sure what type of keyboard it is, but they said its comfortable to use, light keys and capable of pressing more than 4 keys at the same time.

I've already read the previous thread about the MX-BOARD G80-3600 series. Though I still have a few questions. What is the N-key rollover for? What are cherries? Heh. Any pages where I can read about?

Also, I have already bought the MX-BOARD G80-3600LYC which would be arriving anytime this week. But I can still cancel that if that keyboard wouldn't suit my gaming needs at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi autumnwillow. :) Both Cherry G80-3600LYC and G80-3600LXC have light switches. I haven't tried the red stem yet but I have keyboards with the brown stem/tea axis and would recommend them if you want light switches. The red stem are even lighter than the brown and are linear, meaning there is no tactile feeling when pressed. As for N-key rollover, the G80-3600LYC has up to six keys over USB.

Wow so I am buying the right keyboard! I thought G80-3600LXC was better. What is the N-key rollover for? Is it the maximum number of keys that can be pressed at the same time?

Did you get the one with red stem? I'd like to hear how you find the switches. I don't know much about NKRO, I think it is how many keys you can press at once.

Hey you live in Japan, be prepared for a lot of questions in this board :)
You can buy a Topre Realforce keyboard in Japan, their keyboards are very nice to type on and have N-Key rollover (up to 6 keys because that's the limit of the usb port). Another brand which you can try is Filco (http://www.diatec.co.jp), they have a lot of keyboards listed on their site, most of which are offered with and without the N-key rollover, so you can choose weather to pay a premium price for it. You can even choose between different layouts there. I would strongly recommend the brown cherries, but most of the gamers seems to prefer the blacks, so probably it would be better if you can try them somewhere by yourself. Good luck.

Realforce 101 uses ps/2, so it does more than 6.  It handled 20+ keys on the n-key rollover test.

Chloe,

Yes I did. Sure I'll let you know.

Sashomasho,

What kind of questions? As long as I can answer them without buying those expensive keyboards it wouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm now i'm starting to wonder. I think the red cherries would be too smooth/soft for me. Arrrr!

Would you be able to return the keyboard if you didn't like the switches?

I think so.. Not sure. Heh. But If that keyboard doesn't suit me then I guess I'll just have to give it to my brother.

I can't really speak/understand Japanese pretty much so I'm not really sure.

I'm just curious.  Does anyone know anything about the Samsung SEM-DT35, like what kind of switches it uses?  I can't find any info on it anywhere?  I'm assuming membrane...

What's the difference between the G80-3000 and 3600? N-key?

Maybe its just the latest revision, similar to how you get multiple versions of G80-1800.

They often make tweaks that we don't know of e.g. changing dual injected keycaps to single mold with laser etched keys or instead of f and j keys with the bit of plastic hanging out they have f and j home keys with a more concave shape.

Cherry will never tell us of course, but looking at how the stems change slightly over time you can guess they made some change. Also red stems maybe becoming more common and become the defacto gaming keyswitch that cherry are releasing so this would be part of the new revision.

When I asked Cherry about the G80-1865 they said they change the part numbers for keyboards made to request. This would explain why the G80-1856HQMGB has black switches instead of clear as in the G80-3000LQMDE. Some changes are reflected in the part number, for instance the H indicates dual molded keycaps, L for lasered.
