Spilt Tea on Keyboard (Ducky Shine 2)

So before you berate me, I'm pretty damn Careful with my keyboard, I push it back before I eat/drink, but this time it happend before I pushed it back....

Anyway. I used Vodka (Frozen) to clean it and assumed that it'd be fine, however, LED's started to flicker and then, blanked out.
I used some Rubik's cube silicon lubricant to fix the keys, but now the 5 key doesn't actuate.



There is a diagram of the lights that work ( blue is on )
It doesn't annoy me too much, I just put them all off, but does anyone have any idea to what I could do?

Sounds like you might have shorted something on the PCB.

Actually I think this is the first time I have heard of someone using vodka to rinse out a keyboard.  I would have considered it too valuable for that ;)

Are you sure it was completely dry before you used it (the keyboard)?

rinse it again, then make sure it is genuinely dry and that there are no prior residues left. I'm not sure if the vodka dissolved the tea properly - you need to get all foreign substances out.

I think the Shine 2 has a double layer PCB; and if it does, maybe there is liquid between the PCB layers?

Nope, I know it wasn't dry, I left it overnight, upside down, and plugged it back in, and when I pushed it back some more spilt out.
It was frozen so I assumed it was purish alcohol, but I now have 98% pure lab grade stuff, won't make that mistake twice.
Also, this was a week or so ago, but I don't like having semi-broken stuff around, so I thought I'd see what you guys have to recommend.

I doubt there is any liquid left, as I said it was a weak ago and I made sure of it the second time round.

How should I go about rinsing it, as I said, I have 98% alcohol in the house, that's the stuff I need, right?

Or higher.  98% is still 2% water.  Though it's better than rinsing it with 40% water (vodka).  It is probably rinsed well enough at this point and just has water stuck in it.  You might want to look into using heat to dry it, maybe in an oven set low enough not to melt any of the parts.

Would a hair dryer/under the radiator be good or are we looking for a more boil type heat here?

Boil would be too much.  Just enough to accelerate drying.  Maybe force water out with compressed air too.

Another trick is to leave the keyboard in a bag of rice for a while.  The rice facilitates absorption of the water.

It's been a week, been through a oven and a hair dryer, as well as under a radiator.....
I'm pretty confident that it's all gone by this point... but if you guys feel like that is the problem then I can leave it in the oven for a bit longer, I ran out of compressed air a while ago. I need to pick some up any.

Although admittedly rice drying is a lot different from heat....
I'll give it a whirl.

f it has been that long and the LEDs are still malfunctioning, then something on the PCB might have been fried.

Although the pattern of non-functioning LEDs is sufficiently regular that it might be one or two joints, or one trace, that is bad.

Hmm. I took it apart to have a look....
I then, mid way, decided to see what would happen if I were to turn off all the keys that worked...
The LED's started to flicker..
But when I put it back together I couldn't get these results..

Fixed almost 100%.
There was Suger on the circuit board, cleaned it off, works prefectly!
Now to clean out the 5 key and hope it works.

That is not how double layer PCB work. Dual layer PCB actually just have a layer of trace on the front, and layer on the back. Multiple layers of PCBs are laminated together. You can't get liquid in between.

I was under the impression that those were "double sided".
