POKER II firmware upgrade
« on: Tue, 29 October 2013, 10:37:58 »
Hi POKERs,

We released two firmware versions of POKER II. You can upgrade any one of these.

Please download attached file.

Please read "ikbc-USB update instructions for use" carefully, to avoid unnecessary errors resulting in keyboard failure.

These update will add the following functions:

1. Support NKRO in USB mode
This may not enter bios in rare cases, if you encounter such a situation, please re-back it to original firmware [any 6 keys roll over]

2. Improving right CTRL programming.

3. Solving some compatibility problems.

4. Still support NKRO firmware at 1ms in USB mode.

5. F, G, H of Fn layer (time delay) programming.
You can set up " FN + F = → "in toggle layer mode

Please note that, during the update process, please keep your computer in working. If the computer power failure occurs in update process, then you need to be returned your keyboard to our distributors. They will fixes your keyboard (Repair costs and freight charges is needed)

If you have any questions, please contact the original place of purchase.

Enjoy this upgrade :thumb:

Are you guys thinking of creating a program so we can create our own layout?

Similar to the GH60.

Works perfectly when tested in AquaTest.

If you want to test too, just be careful when hitting Fn keys, as you might set off some of the hardware switches.

I was confused when my keyboard started "malfunctioning" after mindlessly facerolling the keys while testing,
only to realize I was being dumb and started hitting stuff like Fn+Z , Fn+Space, etc.

Anyone running into any troubles updating the firmware? When I updated the firmware, my Poker is randomly typing keys and acting up. Tried restoring defaults and made sure the macro mode wasn't on...didn't touch it while it was updating the firmware for NKRO.

Just curious if anyone was having issues too or trying to get it back to the original firmware.

I didn't seem to have any problem with updating.
It detected my keyboard as "Poker II" though, and not the string of letters/numbers that was in the
written in the .pdf, if that makes a difference.

'should only take 5 seconds after pushing the .bin.

Did you happen to pull out the USB cable while it was pushing?

My keyboard was detected as Poker II as well. The PDF was just an example because they were using a 104 key keyboard and not a Poker II. I basically followed the instructions by unzipping the folder, running the .exe, selected "Poker II NKRO in USB mode.bin". It said it was installed successfully, but its like as if the keyboard got stuck in macro mode and I cant get out of it. When I tried to transfer it back into the original firmware, it's stuck in the same mode. (i'm assuming it might be in macro mode because when i press keys: a s d f j k or l, it has similar blurbs of text like "asdfjkl" on all of them. I've never used the programming mode, but I remember at one point i got caught in it and typed something like that by accident", but all other keys work normally...)

I didn't pull on the USB cable...I'm gonna try it on a windows 7 computer sometime (because I tried it on a windows 8.1? Maybe that's the potential suspect).

Any other insights would be awesome  :'(

Hmm...I tried both files "Poker II NKRO in USB mode.bin" and "Poker II original firmware.bin" multiple times (~5 each?) with the same result...

what OS are you guys running by any chance? do you remember what happened the first 2 times you installed it and it didn't work? were those issues the same as mine, or did the keyboard just not work? Just curious.

Thanks for the responses

I've not worked with that software in particular, but in general when flashing something like the BIOS, or your video card's BIOS, or ...

That button would query the device in question for what version of FW, or firmware, it was running right now. This achieves two results, one it proves there's communication needed for the device in question, and two you can see what version it thinks it's on right now.

I had something similar to this happen while I was programming the Pn layer. (This was before the firmware update too). Sometimes it bugs out and some keys
get stuck in some weird commands after programming. Usually it fixes itself after a reconnect to USB though. Maybe try resetting all of the DIP switches to off
and "factory-stocking" the Pn layer?

Also, I did the firmware update on W7 (x64).

With the NKRO over USB, will it cause Mac OS to fail to detect the keyboard?
I would assume this to be the case.
It seems to use the same "USB-hub" emulation hack that most other USB-nKRO keyboards use (i.e. Ducky boards).
The hack only works on Windows, iirc.

Another reason is, the app is a .exe file.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll try and fiddle around more with the dip switches and messing around with the restore factory settings some more. I did that several times (holding Fn+R for 9 blinking lights) and it still didnt fix it...but havent thought about messing with the dip switches yet since I never use them anyways. And I guess I'll find a machine with W7 somewhere.

Thanks again gang! Hopefully I'm not just being stupid and missing something simple (then again...I'd rather the problem be that than a complex issue that is unresolvable  :p)

Seemed to have identified the problem...The firmware update caused my "a s d f j k l" and "\" keys to be in Program mode  WITHOUT ACTIVATING IT (e.g. Fn + a is now a without the Fn button depressed) even after reverting (or upgrading) the firmware. I try to reprogram the keys as well as factory restore (Fn + R for 9 seconds) the keys but it doesn't work.

I'm stumped. Tried a plethora of methods to fix it and I'm out of solutions. I might just have to try and get Vortex to chime in or something to help me (or potentially others) to fix it. Here's the things I tried:

*Reverting back to old firmware
*Fn + R factory reset
*Contacting Vortex (no reply yet)
*Reprogramming the buttons to itself (e.g. A = A instead of A = asdfjk), but doesnt work.
*messing with the dip switches after reinstallation to see if that had any affect.
*unplugging/replugging the USB after the software update is complete. No avail.
*reverting and reinstalling the original and nkro software multiple times.

Atleast I've identified the problem...now only if there was a solution to fix it. FML $130 for a now useless =/.

I'll leave this information for someone else if they run into the same problem with the Poker II to try and trouble shoot it. Thanks forum. I'll post a solution if I ever find it. good luck ya'll.

Sad to hear that you guys are having problems too, but not surprised that I'm not the only one. I havent heard anything from Vortex yet...so we'll see.

I contacted mechanical keyboards (dot com) and they offered to fix it...not sure how they're gonna do it, but it'll cost me 30 bucks for them to look at it AND I'll have to pay shipping. I don't plan on paying for something that is a POTENTIAL fix instead of a guaranteed fix.

Asked if they had contact information to vortex, but not even they have information on Vortex support...so if it's a dead end, that's $30 down the toilet.

I'll post again if I hear/find anything. In the mean time my Ducky Shine 2 TKL is taking full time ;) (bringing it to work and using it at home haha!)

Dont worry, I love MK, that's where I get all my stuff! They even sent me a spacebar for a defect on one of my boards! I'm just saying idk what they could do because I've identified the problem and believe its not something easily fixed. (plus a new keyboard would be a waste because they're out of stock on my switch type and I was planning on waiting for vortex response anyways.)

I was way ahead of you on the facebook post ;) Did that the day it happened and they finally got back!

Hopefully the new attachment fixes it, gonna try it when I get home.

I actually ran the update utility from within a VirtualBox Windows VM with no problems. Just had to do the extra step of selecting the USB devices from the VM menu.

If anyone bricked their board trying to flash the firmware, check if your board is connected to USB 3 or 2. Mine was connected to USB 3 and for some reason kept failing on the update, but when I changed it over to a USB 2 port it flashed perfectly.
