Don't forget about this: https://www.massdrop.com/vote/mechanical-keyboard-controller-diy

Might want to get those last 10 votes in, as I am sure you will need one to use with these boards.

Do you have a rough estimate for what shipping would be like for US buyers?
give me a break!!! PLEASE! RAWR! RAWR! RAWR! RAWR! RAWR!

Well it's not like I have money falling from trees--for all I know it could be $50+.  It's a legitimate question.  But it's fine, I'm sticking with as few keyboards as possible now.

I doubt shipping from CPT to you will be much more than 15 dollars, having shipped plenty of them myself within the US. It looks like it can fit in a large flat rate USPS box with plenty of extra room to spare. Those are a flat 15 dollars with priority shipping.

I have a feeling that shipping from CPTBadAss to each US buyer would be no more than $13. Plus each buyer's share of the shipping from tin to CPT (probably a few dollars).

So what's the deal with these? forgive my ignorance. Briefly looking around, it looks like they're rare, compact BS?

CPTbadass has a lot of good links, but there's a few reasons these are wanted.

You know how aluminium cased cherry keyboards are often expensive? These have metal cases. Even the small 62 key weighs more than a full size model M. It's also got capacitive buckling spring (model F) technology and therefore NKRO. Finally, it's in a small 60% layout (very popular right now).

I would also like to note that it's got a very compact keyset, with a split shift and spacebar. It has extra keys instead of gaps in the bottom row (perfect for super or function keys between ctrl and alt) Also, I haven't tried it, but it looks like it might support a split backspace and right shift, so if you removed the two outer keys on the bottom row (and added some largerkeys and stabilizers for rightshift, enter, etc), you could have a HHKB layout model F.

All of this should be possible with a replacement controller, and possibly some extra keycaps, stabilizers and maybe an added hammer/spring or two (depending on layout)

The controller is not yet done. If you get one, you can start thinking about keycaps, layouts and modding (A replacement mat is a good place to start) until work on the controller is complete.

A lot of people have two qualms about the model F's They are large and have odd layouts. This solves both issues somewhat as it's smaller and supports a good variety of useful layouts. Added to that, it has a nice robust metal chassis
Until I get one, I can't say with certainty which of those split keys can be converted into a larger version, but I suspect enter and shift can. There is also an excellent chance you can put an ISO enter on there though I can't know for sure until I do it.

Uh this got out of hand fast @.@. Didn't realize how many people would want this and I signed on as proxy, thinking it'd be less than 10 boards. Oh well, happy to help :D. Just realize this will be my first big shipping project thing everyone.

Tin are you going to invoice all of us? How is the shipping from me to you going to work?

I thought shipping would be closer to the game board flat rate boxes but what boxes might fit for less jdcarpe/BroCaps?

That's what I was referring to. Gameboard boxes or large flat rate are both 15 dollars anywhere in the US

Doubtful. This is almost the size of an SSK. While the layout is 60%, the case is definitely not. Also the height of it might also be taller than expected.

They are pretty big. If I remember right, on kishy's site, it was around 14" long (maybe longer)

Hm, is it $15 through Stamps.com? I usually just go to the branch office and it costs $16.85. Regardless, its about $15. Just curious.

Thought you meant like a medium flat rate or something. Thanks for the clarification, Brocaps.

I am not sure, but when I paid for the label through USPS.com, it was about 15. They may have raised the price since I last shipped one, though. But in that area, yeah.
I know USPS offers a discount for buying them online. (like a dollar or so cheaper than the post office)

As a small heads up, if and/or when a replacement controller may/might happen, it will at the very least require desoldering of the 30 pin ribbon cable from the existing controller and soldering it to the new one. Said ribbon cable does not have a readily available 'easy' replacement, so due care will be needed to avoid damaging it (though it is fairly robust). Usage of this on a modern pc will never be a simple drop in process, unfortunately.

The problem with the large flat rate will be packaging. There will be a LOT of space to move around. But then, as DV said, it's a metal case. Not like a F-122 which will break. But do we want to risk much chance?

Well, honestly, I think the flat rate box is the easiest option by far, and it should be easy for you. I'm just saying shipping costs will be more because you'll need to get paper to stuff in the boxes. Not bubble wrap.

If you have shipping needs/questions, feel free to bug me, too.  Having never seen a tinsaver, I'd not know what flat rate it would fit it, but you might be able to use a self-provided box or one of the other nonflat-rate boxes that fit the tinsaver better and slide in between med/lrg flat rate pricing as well.

Hell, if you want, I can batch all the shipping labels on my shipping portal I use and email you the pdf with all the labels paid and ready to go, too.

Shipping info about these.

These are very "wide". The keyboard extends more than 1.5" from the keycap area (a bit more than the excess edges on the F122). The 107 is the widest model F keyboard I know of.

You can see on kishy's site he's weighed the parts to be 2853 grams (6.29 lbs, or 6 lb, 5 oz) total, so they are pretty heavy. Looking at his pictures, It appears to be about 35 Cm (13.75 inches or so) wide and about 15 cm (roughly 6 inches or so) high. I can get a more exact measure of the height and "depth" when I get home to measure my 50-key.

CPTbadass travelled with my 50-key (so he should have a bit of an idea of the size). These are actually not very "high", especially if the bar foot is removed for shipping. They are heavy, though, so a flat rate option is likely a good one.

I would say that the normal box might be a better choice for shipping, as I think it'll fit, and it would make wrapping these easier.

I recommend the large bubble bubblewrap. It's a good mix of cheap and thick to protect these.

Another workable idea is the larger air flexible sheets

Also, you might be able to get "super duty" bubble bags in the right size from uline

maybe 12*15 might fit? Not sure about the price though.

Figured I'd pop in here, since I did on DT:

Good job for finding these and making them accessible. They are exceptionally difficult to find, I suspect because the industry that used them (banking/finance) has strict IT regulations for destroying old equipment...would be my guess anyway, combined with the fact the system was for such a niche market.

The Kishsaver, so-named by a small group in IRC 2-3 years ago when I co-introduced this keyboard with dw_junon, has 3 sibling keyboards, one smaller, and two larger. Details are on my website which is exceptionally slow due to excess visitors currently (it's hosted on a 0.5Mb/s connection! note that I only just installed the pageview counter so it is deceptively low).

dw, I might add, deserves full credit for me even knowing what these are, and for encouraging me to buy one sight-unseen to confirm that such a thing actually existed.

These keyboards are NOT CURRENTLY USABLE WITH ANYTHING except an IBM 4704, and I am most likely the only person under 25 years old who owns one...most certainly the only person on GH. There are conversion projects but it is important for people to realize you cannot use this for anything currently and it will be a while before you can. Conversion will most likely be successful through controller replacement; a plug-in solution is extremely unlikely because of how basic the protocol is (well, that was the news last time I actively discussed it with the parties attempting conversion, anyway). You will very likely require soldering abilities and they will very likely need to be more advanced than assembling a Teensy converter, if only slightly more advanced.

I encourage everyone who has bought or is buying one to read the page I wrote on my website about the 4700 system as it'll give you some context for the keyboards. After all, history is interesting too, isn't it?

Thank you, Kishy
Would you mind posting dimensions of the kishsaver: width, depth, and height at the tallest point?
