I was searching for a way to adapt my IBM M to bluetooth so I could use it with a tablet.

I stayed because I thought I was the only one that loved these keyboards!  It's good to be with other crazies. :D

I had found my way to deskthority.net in search of caps with legends for my Das.  After realizing they were mostly out of the US I ended up finding my way here and just stuck around.

I remembered reading about the HHKB and its blank-awesomeness something like ten years ago. Dropped the idea of buying one since it was beyond expensive, but I never forgot how cool it looked and the idea of a keyboard tailored for coding/hacking.

Rediscovered it at some point a few years ago, also found a picture of a Filco keyboard floating around on some Korean site with weird-colored switches. Searched around, and this was the forum where people were talking about those two things.

I ended up here link browsing. I was reading somewhere for some keyboard and I found myself here. It was pictures of Brobots that captivated me and since than I've seen a lot of interesting keycaps/boards etc. It's been a learning experience but I keep coming back to just waste some time, talk a little and "window shop" like I do all over the web just this time for CC's and the like. Why did I come to GH? Cuz my good old friend Microsoft Windows found his IBM Model M5-2 in the trash at school. Shortly after I bought an M4-1, and the rest is history.

Why do I stay? I don't. I've left several times, but I always seem to find my way back. Can't stay away from this place...

i lurked on this site for over a year before i created an account.  i originally came her to find some info on my ebay purchased model m i had purchased a few years earlier.  my fingers were getting tired when i was typing and i wanted to see if there was anything i could do about it.

the reason i stay on this site is that there are few children and trolls.  i love this friggin community.  it is so friendly, mature, and just generally awesome.  i have learned so much from this site that i feel i have an obligation to do more and give back somehow.  no site has ever made me feel like that.  sure i donate money to my favorite torrent trackers and what have ya but i always feel like a user on those sites.  just someone who uses the site.  here i feel like a member.

plus you mother****ers make some seriously crazy **** and have pushed me to do the same.  if it wasnt for this site i would never have had the courage to build an ergodox etc.

****ing thanks.

**** if i know
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I was disillusioned with cheap OEM type keyboards but I'd never heard of mechanical keyboards. I read about the mech's in a computer magazine; After that, it's all Google's fault!  ;D
The keyboards, the keycaps, the money, it's all Google's fault!! LOL

Why stay?
GH is a great source of keyboard knowledge and great people.

I guess that is really the way it is. When I arrived I knew nothing about keyboards and had no mechanical boards. Both those things quickly changed dramatically but now I stick around for the great community and friends. Not to mention I love the keyboard pr0n :)

I was getting frustrated by cheap keyboards back around 2010. If Logitech UltraX were available in ANSI back then in Czechia, I wouldn't bother... but things turned out differently and I started to raid thrift stores and ads/auction sites. GH was a great help, when it came to identification of some obscurities.

At the time, I struggled with RSI in my mousing hand and switched to Colemak, because I was fed up with Czech QWERTZ/QWERTY. The 'ergonomics' and 'input devices' subforums are the reason why I stay... especially information on layouts is scarce/forgotten outside these few forums.

Registered as I had been lurking for years on and off, ogling at all the custom keycaps (before they became so common). Thought of a nice username and decided I'd snatch it in case someone else though of it (I realize how unlikely that actually is, haha).

Became more active when looking for a new board and the topics here and deskthority helped a lot. Stayed to post reviews and generally be a presence.

That just described me! How sad.
