Mis-named foods

I had some Doritos buffalo wings chips earlier in the week.

They were quite nice, and mildly spicy, but it occurred to me that buffalos generally don't tend to have wings.

Obvious joke is very obvious.

Just so we're clear: Buffalo is a town in New York.



There are no buffalo in Buffalo, New York (strangely). Buffalo wings are simply chicken wings dunked in a delicious sauce, and they're named after the town Buffalo (so I suppose they are indirectly named after the animal, but not directly, and the name has nothing to do with the type of meat.) where they were invented.

Seems like they most probably in what is now Belgium with some uncertainty.  It's a pretty interesting article.

According to the article or at least how I interpreted it, Its called French fries because deep frying used to be called French frying.
