HHKB pro 2 silence method, Dental bands or soft landing pads?
« on: Tue, 10 December 2013, 23:25:08 »
Just wondering what silencing method you guys think i should go with.

Dental band method seems to be the most popular but i have never heard a sound test of either with an HHKB.

So if anyone has a sound test of either would be good or just has personal experience with either would be nice.

I've only tried dental bands but I love it! Sounds like rain drops. In my silencing post I posted a video! I'm on my phone can't get the link sorry. Good luck!

Starting at the top!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Heh a high roller rolling from expensive to cheap. Giving oneself the best start! :))

I sort of also started out as HHKB Pro as my first mechanical board. Although technically I have been using rubber dome keyboards for quite sometime in between along with two old keyboards which I didn't know they were somewhat mechanical as well (one hybrid and one real mechanical except with some issues).

I got HHKB in the middle of my collection, but I cannot afford another one so I continually switch between various MX boards and HHKB (and occasionally Model M).

Just wondering what silencing method you guys think i should go with.

Dental band method seems to be the most popular but i have never heard a sound test of either with an HHKB.

So if anyone has a sound test of either would be good or just has personal experience with either would be nice.

I felt guilty for contributing to the off the topic cause. Soft landing pads I would probably go for. My HHKB is already silenced (factory silencing) and I believe it is using foam based silencing. So soft landing pads would seem a little more "factory moddified" and may sound more closer to what Type-S on HHKB are meant to sound.

Of course I have no clue on the said topic. They both more or less does the same thing: silencing. Dental bands may wear over time just like the rubber domes over the springs. Maybe dental bands may wear more but again I don't have much of an idea.

Yeah i'm leaning towards Soft landing pads, The guy who did the mod said that soft landing pads feel  even better than his Type S HHKB.
