Hey-

Since completing the mod of my Filco board I'm much more confident in my soldering abilities and would like to try to swap out the black cherries in my Deck 82 key, hence I'm looking for a source for some brown stemmed cherry mx switches.

Both Digikey and Mouser carry them but they're kind of expensive new. Anybody have any other ideas? Maybe an ebay(able) board that has brown cherries but sells for less than the cost of 82 individual switches new?

Thanks
If it's not ALPS it's crap!

If you use the Compaq make sure you have all the required holes drilled in the Deck. The browns in the Compaq require 7 holes.

You could either swap the internals after desoldering the switch (better) or cut the registration pins from the brown's lower case (worse).

I thought the Deck use 11NW.  Browns in Compaq are not plate mounted.

Hmm... now I'm confused.

The switches in the Deck are not plate mounted. They press into a hole in the pcb. They have two legs which are soldered on, and then another 2 solder points for the LED.

7 holes? What's that all about?

One big hole? That's the plate.

If the switches are plate mounted they should use 11NN. I don't think they are, based on this picture:

I have a non-working Compaq MX11800.  Condition is very good, but seems to have a controller/electronics issue.  I want to remove the trackball module first, but otherwise you can have it for the cost of shipping.
