Ducky Shine Not Registering Keys AGAIN
« on: Sun, 05 January 2014, 12:51:34 »
I made a topic on this yesterday, but figured I would start anew because it was already "resolved" (see thread here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=53059.0)

Just to recap on yesterday, several of the keys on the fifth row of the Shine were not working, all in an alternating order (the Shift, Z, X, etc row).  NOW, the third row of keys are not working in the exact same pattern (Tab, Q, W, etc row).  Specifically Q, E, T, U, O, [{, \|, End, and Left CNTRL at the bottom.

The problem somehow resolved itself after being shut off for a period of time yesterday, but the keys CLEARLY work.  So I was hoping that one of you would be familiar with an extremely odd setting on the keyboard to create these symptoms.

NOTE: It is still under warranty (only a month old) so it can go back - I am just convinced that it is not 'broken'.

Thanks a ton in advance!

you could try updating the firmware if you don't have the newest. it says it resolves a couple motherboard compatibility issues. not this particular issues but you never know and i'd try it before doing a rma.

try turning n-key rollover off and see if that changes anything. have you tried hooking the keyboard up to another computer to rule out the computer being the problem?

I ran the firmware update earlier than did no good, but the DK9087 one that you posted seemed to work.  And yes, I had plugged it in to other computers to yield the same problem.  Thanks for the help!

I've read of weird patterns of backlighting, or some keys not lighting up or staying lit, on a Shine 3, but not keys not registering at all.

Still sounds like a defective keyboard to me.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

just send it back. its not worth poking around and voiding the warranty imo

that unplugging it fixed the problem points to thermal related failure. which generally indicates micro fractures inside the chip or in the solder joints.

Try keeping the cable connected to the computer and then connect the Shine3 with the computer on.  If its only a month old though definitely RMA it.
