Steam Machines

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/34681/valve-shows-off-13-steam-machines-we-have-all-the-prices-and-specs/index.html

Ranging from $500 to $6k

Why anyone would spend $6k on a linux gaming computer is beyond me.

I'll believe that when I see it, seems like a very odd partnership.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I dont get why the switch cover is transparent . It not possible to see them unless you are going to be like demik, typing without keycaps

The idea is the clear case help spread the light from an SMD RGB led under the switch just like what Matias switch did, so I guess the main purpose is now we can have backlit keyboard without switches placed up-side-down and the light comes through all the keycap, not just a coner like before

Kailh will also release transparent versions of their switches very soon (which are low-quality Cherry MX copies) and you guys will see plenty of low-quality chinese mechanical keyboards with RGB this year  :))

Wrong, Kailh is releasing a normal body customized to fit a "normal" sized RGB LED

The Kailh / Tesoro implementation is a more traditional LED per-switch implementation except using RGB LEDs. According to Carter from Coolermaster, the LEDs are custom built into the switches (we cannot confirm as our distributors won’t let us open ‘er up… yet ;) ). If you look closely, you can see that the LEDs are not the regular 3mm flangeless LEDs which we have come to know and love.

So coolermaster is selling the board with the Kailh switches with RGB LEDS??

I think that was more referencing that Carter/Cooler Master had reverse engineered the Kailh switches and understood their implementation. not that they were going to use them.

At least that's how I read that.

http://www.hardocp.com/news/2014/01/07/corsair_announces_ax1500i_worldrsquos_most_technologically_advanced_efficient_psu

Corsair®, the most awarded PC power supply brand in the world1, today announced the AX1500i Digital ATX power supply. The PSU’s digitally-controlled circuitry delivers 1500 watts of ultra-stable power with efficiency that goes beyond 80 PLUSTM Platinum, making the AX1500i the most technologically advanced, energy efficient, and customizable power supply available for extreme PC enthusiasts. The AX1500i’s groundbreaking efficiency meets the current draft for ATX 115 Volt 80 PLUS Titanium for consumer PSUs.

The AX1500i's second generation digital architecture enables the PSU to consistently deliver up to 1500 watts of power with class-leading Titanium energy efficiency levels of up to 94%. The DSP-controlled circuitry of the PSU allows it to consistently deliver exceptionally stable voltages along with amazingly low ripple and noise. Tremendous power reserves combined with a vast array of cabling options enables the AX1500i to power heavily overclocked PC systems with up to four graphics cards in NVIDIA® SLI™ or AMD CrossFireX™ configurations with headroom to spare. The AX1500’s leading performance is possible thanks to a streamlined component count and circuit-board layout made possible by the DSP-based design. The AX1500i’s high efficiency results in reduced heat, allowing the PSU to operate in silent Zero RPM Fan Mode until the load reaches 450 watts. A custom-designed fluid dynamic bearing 140mm fan, specifically designed for low-noise operation, allows the PSU to run quietly even when running at full 1500 watt power output.

So a gaming PC then?

Sure some people aren't willing to take their computer apart but what they really need is to realise that it isn't dangerous and learn how to do it rather than blowing silly amounts of money on a (likely to be) proprietary hardware standard. Kinda hope this one doesn't get off the ground.

I suppose it depends if they do make it open standard and plenty of other companies get behind it. It doesn't seem like a bad idea for people that aren't confident inside a computer, or if you just want something built. Even later down the line though, I can forsee too many variables that will just mean the project doesn't work.

Apparently this is 30hz and a TN panel. :( I don't see the use base if that's true.

It’s known as the P2815Q and it contains an IPS LED display

I wouldn't be surprised to see it's only 30hz tbh. None of the three companies have released anything I've seen saying whether it's 30hz or 60hz.

time shall tell..

EDIT:

They're probably 60hz, so you're wrong on both accounts :P

I just saw that article but I have read from other sources that it will be TN and 30hz. The price seems too good to be 60 and IPS. That would make it go on sale for around $500. Seems too good to be true.

I just saw that article but I have read from other sources that it will be TN and 30hz. The price seems too good to be 60 and IPS. That would make it go on sale for around $500. Seems too good to be true.

Well, ASUS is reporting the 60hz on their site, and Dell is announcing the IPS on their site.

I'll eat a shoe if the ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo monitors aren't all sharing the same panel.

So I feel pretty safe saying these $600/$700 monitors are 4K, 60Hz, IPS, and DP/HDMI.

Hmm maybe, I only have a little while then to sell my U2713HM. But if it's not 60hz I'm going to be screwed.

Yep, they use the cast-off's from the major manufacturers so we should start seeing them in coming months.

I'm more excited to see what this does to the 27" wqhd monitor prices on the second hand market, those prices are going to plummet.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

They are going to have to. All monitor prices are going to be very low now. Hopefully I can sell mine in the next week or two.

UPDATE: I now have confirmation of the P2815Q’s full specs, and have listed them below. Unfortunately, it tops out at 30Hz 3840 x 2160 and 60Hz for 1920 x 1080.

So no reason to sell your monitor just yet :P

Panel tech: Anti-glare TN (not IPS which was previously rumored)

So yeah, this monitor just lost my purchase...

Yeah, I don't see the user base of this monitor. Who are they targeting? Not gamers because it is 30hz and not graphic designers because of the TN panel. Strange move on their part. They should have increased the cost slightly and made it 60hz and IPS.
