« on: Mon, 27 January 2014, 16:28:26 »
I heard that if you lube your keyboard switches they may feel better.

Now, how do I lube my switches?

Thanks in advance.

Desolder switches, open them, lube stem, put back together, solder

Are you sure there's no way to lube them without desoldering?

Because the TK (like most) is a plate-mounted board, it necessitates desoldering. If you had one of those switch removal tools, which can be DIY'd, you might be able to open it without desoldering, but I'm not sure about the specifics.

The switch top removal tools only work on plate mounted boards that have the custom cutouts which allow the tops to be removed. So far no factory plate allows this.

Some people have tried spraying lube into the switches however this method is not recommended.

Honestly, if you don't want to take the switches off the board to begin with you shouldn't be lubing. Lubing takes a lot of time depending on how you do it.

Your boards switches are plate mounted so you will have to desolder.

If you want to experiment with lubing/modding, you should buy an old cherry pcb-mounted board and fool around with that. Modding plate-mounted boards is annoying af unless you have a custom plate.

Oh, okay, thanks for the information.

You need a custom made plate to do so. No big keyboard maker has done that yet, because it adds almost unncessary cost, as a majority of users won't be modding the board.

Filing down the plate is going to take too much time and effort...

Somebody on GH has already done that. Lubing keyboards also takes a lot of time and effort, but we still do it.
