Looking for a Poker 2 in French ISO layout
« on: Sun, 02 February 2014, 05:09:37 »
I want to buy a KBT Poker 2 in French ISO layout.

I have only found Pure Pro in French ISO.

I have thought about buying keycaps but i can't find anyone that makes side and top printed custom keycaps. Poker 2 has keys sideprinted, that's why.

Who do i contact? I'm sure they can make Poker 2 in French ISO. Their Facebook pages seem dead. Their website doesn't work.

I know there were some on kbtrace.com, but from what I've heard that reseller can not really be trusted anymore. Your best bet is another ISO-variant Poker 2 and some new keycaps.

The sideprinted keys are only for the function layer, you don't necessarily need the side-printed legends, those key combinations you will use often you will memorize pretty quick. WASD keyboards offers custom printed keys, but I would recommend getting a cheap Cherry G80 from ebay and harvest the keycaps from there.

Vortex is the manufacturer of the Poker 2 and their last Facebook post was 2 days ago. I wouldn't call that "dead".

kbtrace.com doesn't work. If there were in French lay-out, then there's hope.
I don't want to pass the 100 euro mark unless i  maybe buy some pimped out keyset. Buying a keyboard just for keycaps is not something i want to do.
I'll ask them on their Facebook page.

I was going to purchase one from kbtrace.com also but the website went down a few days later :/

I emailed them through their Amazon store on January 30th and they replied on January 31st:

I just checked in the Google Cache, only ISO versions I've seen are German and UK ISO. What I saw was probably the Pure Pro.

I don't want to pass the 100 euro mark unless i maybe buy some pimped out keyset.

You will hardly be able to get an ISO Poker 2 at all then. The Poker 2 with German ISO costs 105€ on Amazon here.

Buying a keyboard just for keycaps is not something i want to do.

Why not?

As I've said I've read some not-so-good stuff about them: http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/1gr85c/do_not_buy_from_wwwkbtracecom/
There was some user here on GH who warned about them as well, can't find the post though right now.

Just buy a UK ISO version and install AZERTY keycaps. You can select the layout in your OS. UK ones are available from Amazon.co.uk.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Are you sure you saw French layout Poker 2?

I've contacted the guy on amazon.fr who sells Pure Pro in French. He says that the Poker 2 doesn't exist in French ISO.

Are you sure you saw French layout Poker 2?

I've contacted the guy on amazon.fr who sells Pure Pro in French. He says that the Poker 2 doesn't exist in French ISO.

I have purchased 4 items from kbtrace.com in the last 6 months, and everything arrived. Sometimes it took a long time, but I have received everything.

I don't think the Poker 2 has ever been released in ISO. I can be wrong, but at least it was not available in ISO from kbtrace.com.

As an ISO AZERTY user myself, I have simply given up on the ISO layout. I purchase only ANSI keyboards now. Doing so, I have 2 problems to solve:

1. Finding key caps:
  - I use vinyl stickers I have ordered from a french company: http://www.clavier-azerty.com and they now have a portal dedicated to Belgium: http://www.clavier-azerty.be
  - It is possible to use most of the keycaps of an ISO Cherry compatible key set. You will only miss the "*" key if you do so (you will have \ and | on it)
  - I have designed my own set of keycaps and ordered them from WASD Keyboards. Not having the side legends is not a problem, I have printed the most important ones on the top of the keycap

2. Missing ISO key located at the right of the left Shift:
  - I remap some AltGr+some_key to get the missing characters
  - Recently I have started using the CapsLock key to replace that key (I still have the CapsLock function on AltGr+CapsLock for example)

I'm pretty sure you do not want to do all that, but I mention it just because it is perfectly possible to get rid of the ISO layout.

Yep you are wrong on this one. The Poker 2 is available in ISO, and it used to be available on kbtrace.com, too, when the site was still up. Check the Google Cache link I posted.

The Poker 2 is available in UK/DE ISO.

I can't be bothered making such an effort for my first mechanical keyboard or spending more than +-100 euro.

Ducky offers AZERTY BE and FR, but when i saw the Poker 2, i was sold. And you have the gaming keyboards (Razer, CM, Zowie...) with mechanical switches of course.

I was reffering to ISO Poker 2s in general not AZERTY since kbtrace.com seems like the only place to purchase ISO Poker 2s.  Only the Pure is available with AZERTY.

I would agree with BlueBär, find cheapest ISO Poker you can find, disregard the keycap it comes with as they are really not that nice anyway. Then, hunt ebay for cheap price Cherry G80/G81 S*F/H*F/L**FR or H*B/H**BE/L**BE models. It's not impossible to find old Cherry boards in near new shape for under 20EUR. Cherry has some of the nicest keycap that ever came on any MX keyboard, and offered the largest selection of language layouts of pretty much anyone as well.

You are right. Sorry.

But the last time I checked the site, which was maybe 10 days ago (just before it went down), all those ISO Poker 2 were not there anymore. The original Poker X was still on sale, however, available only in red Cherry MX.

But we will see when the site comes back online.
