Realforce issue
« on: Sun, 09 March 2014, 14:39:27 »
Hi all,
I got a realforce 87uw 55g board, and a digil0g aluminum case to put it in.  Everything was smooth sailing until i tried to get the ground off of the metal pcb.  Does anyone know whether Realforce puts locktight on the ground screw or something because I have had no luck whatsoever in getting it to budge, and I've been trying for a while now.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Here's an image I stole from ripster of the area: .  It's a phillips head screw that connects a ground to the PCB from the usb cable.

There's no locktight glue, but there might be a lock washer keeping it on there tighter than normal. Just get a good grip on a screwdriver that fits into the screw head well, and turn hard.

Weird, mine came off with no issues. I remember it took some good force to get it off, but it still came right off.

I had trouble removing mine too.  I ended up using a very sharp micro-screw driver (flat head) to remove the screw.  It took quite a bit of downward pressure on the screw with the screwdriver, but it worked.

I had to use a micro tool set with an oversize handle to generate sufficient torque and, as AKIMbO said, downward pressure.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll give it another shot when I get home from work later tonight. I think it must be a lock washer or something similar.

Downward pressure is key to prevent cam out of the Phillips bit. I recommend replacing it with hex or torx.

I second what AKIMbO said about using a flat head driver. I remember having an easier time getting it off with a flat head than a philips. Not as much downward force required to prevent it from popping out.

Got it to work, thanks guys!  Turns out I really did just need more force.  I'm used to fixing fencing equipment with jewelers screwdrivers so I thought that I could get enough torque on it with those, but I needed that fullsize handle.  Fortunately we had a phillips head screwdriver that fit perfectly.  After a battle that took days, I had it out and put into its new case in seconds.

Thanks again for your help!

I've opened my silent model and my all 55g up multiple times and that screw came right out. Glad you got it!
