People who look like anime characters
« on: Sun, 23 March 2014, 09:00:09 »
Got inspired by this one:

Natalia Poklonskaya who's now some kind of official in Russian held Crimea.

Actually, now that Ukraine is in the news, I remember lots of their people look like cartoon characters. (Apologies, Mougrim!)

Here's Dr. Evil

And here's Barbie

58468-3

And this woman, I can't tell her from a Greek statue. Do Ukrainian woman really walk around looking like that? Where are the fat Bubushkas?

Oh, and here's a link to a local super non-hero. Batman sentenced to prison in Singapore for breaking and entering a few months ago. Wonder why the Gotham city police never thought about it. After all, has Batman ever entered a criminal's lair from the front door?

babushkas, shmabushkas.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

What you think of when you think of ‘the Slavs’.

BTW you had better be able to name at least one of these guys. Don’t worry, they’re mostly sky-s or kov-s and some of them are both kov-s and sky-s.  ;D

I am assuming we can not include people who cosplay with the intention to look like them.

Keeanu Reeves and Spike Spiegel

Even though Joseph Gordon Levit does not look like Spike Spiegel (length , mostly) he does have the attitude for it

Ah yes, of course, the Russian education system. Probably taught you guys ballet and nuclear physics in back to back classes.

I bet if you guys accepted the American education system, aka Freedom Education, not only would you not know any of these guys, you’d think War and Peace was doublespeak invented by George Bush and **** Cheney.

That said, I actually left their names in the names of the files. (Make things easier for the average citizen of the United States of Freedomia. Some of whom didn’t realize in 2000 that they were not voting for the same George Bush as the one who was beaten by Bill Clinton in 1992)

Oh, and Binge, yes I know. She looked like the ideal candidate for anime-lization.

Manny (that’s you, GrimFandango): awesome likeliness on your photos, with the sole exception that I cannot associate Keanu Reeves with cigarettes.

Amy Dallen of Geek & Sundry reminds me of Ed in Cowboy Bebop, not so much in the way she looks but in her attitude and how she talks.

It must be your translated/ dubbed version of Cowboy Bebop. The dubber couldn't keep up with the original Seiyu.

The Japanese version with English subtitles is very unique. I can't describe Ed's voice and personality/ attitude, but if you did a lineup where you played excerpts of various anime characters speaking, one of which was Ed's, I'm pretty sure I could pick out Ed even though I know no Japanese.

That's how good the Japanese voice actresses are. Ed feels like Ed, not Koko Hekmatyr or Dirty Pair Yuri. That's why most serious anime fans would prefer to hear the Japanese originals. Even if we understand almost nothing,  the personality still comes through. Hardly any non-Japanese dubber can match the original Seiyu.

OK, these people don't look like anime characters; they look like themselves...

58674-0

But they aren't themselves!

http://www.alisonjackson.com/
Spoof lookalike pictures. Some great ones of the Queen changing the royal baby's diaper.

I really did a double take myself despite seeing the headline in the Independent.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/scottish-independence-alison-jackson-spoofs-david-cameron-and-alex-salmond-enjoying-a-train-ride-together-9165832.html

Was that photo the original one of the UK PM and the wannabe Scottish PM (ie scroll down for the lookalikes), or was that photo itself the photo of the genuine spoofs? I had to read the article to confirm.

Yes, the English dub of Cowboy Bebop.

strongly recommend that you at least go for the Japanese originals in a few of the better animes.

Japanese voice acting is really a highly refined and competitive art. In the West nowadays they just get whoever 'has a nice voice' or 'has some name recognition' and this person is very, very rarely able to bring the personality out correctly.

Looking back (or shall I say, listening back) to Cowboy Bebop when I saw it 10 years ago, I'd say the two females (Ed and Faye) have voice-personalities that I've never come across since. The same voice actresses may have voiced other characters since, but the personalities created for Ed and Faye were really unique.
