Hey guys! Been a long time lurker but this is my first time posting!

Anyhow, I currently own a Keycool 84, and love it! It's the black LED backlit version, and I seriously enjoy everything about it. Just working on some custom keycaps.

I was wondering if anyone has the white version of the Keycool 84, with the PBT keycaps, and do you know if the PCB is the same as the fully backlit one? I figure it might be, since it would be easier to just produce one PCB, and the white one has some LEDs on certain keys. If anyone has one and could look to see if the PCB has the holes/headers for LEDs on every key, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

you really have been dissembling lots of keyboards, SpamRay. Am surprised your wallet isn't hurting yet!
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

The worst part of this one is I messed up the stickers looking for screws which are not there.

Thanks a ton guys! Looks like it has some holes, but not the dedicated holes for the LEDs to be wired into the board. A true shame, a backlit white version would be awesome!

Spamray's has LED holes. though you will have to also solder in resistors. You can tell from his picture that the LED holes are wired up (the ones on the poker 1 by comparison are not wired)

They usually cover the plastic drop location with a large sticker, you will get better at finding it.

Could those be diodes? My KC84 didn't have LED holes

edit: my pcb was way different

Hmmm..so it's still up in the air, then? Some PCBs might have holes, while others may not? I might just pull the trigger on a white one and find out. Worst case scenario, I have an extra sweet white PBT keyboard.

Update:

Opened up my new KC84, same as before. No holes for LEDs

With the old version (Green box) and the new version (brown box) both PCBs are the same.

Also, don't know why, but my PCBs seem a lighter shade of red than spamray's

nother thing to note, my switches are soldered the right way, while spamray's pcb is designed to have the switches upsidedown (a trend that a lot of led boards are doing)

But it looks like spamray's pcb will allow LEDs no problem. Just need to SMD solder resistors (pads are already there)

ANOTHER thing: my keycool logo is made in traces while spamray's is silkscreened

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter where it came from since banggood is a dropshipper anyway  :D

So I guess this is how it went:

kc is chinese company, so they want to cut costs (best example is my current board passed QC but the ' key has a cold joint or something....

spamrays is made in 2012. They designed 1 pcb for both the LED and non LED versions

in 2013 they made mine. Revised PCB, different one for led and non led

also for the silksceen/traced keycool name and date, the middle line is almost the same except mine says vo1 while spams is vo2....
