Lost Alpha is released-its FREE!
« on: Sun, 27 April 2014, 15:31:12 »
This is a full size Stalker stand-alone game. It can be downloaded directly from ModdB in 4 parts.
It extracts to a full 14.5 GBs and is much larger than the original Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl. It has many extra maps from the earlier builds directly received from GSC themselves with permission.
Download all 4 parts and put them in the same folder. Extract the part 1 and use it to extract and install the other parts and the game itself. You need a strong PC since they rebuilt the X-Ray engine enough to use multiple-cores and run better. Its still an old engine but looks very nice.
For any issues you might encounter, use the GSC Gaming World site which has new threads for this game.
When installing the progress bar just looks full, but its working fine and you need to wait about 15 to 20 minutes for it to finish.

I really enjoyed all the stalker games so I will have to give this a try. I'm actually in the middle of my 3rd playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl right now using LURK.

So... it's like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1935 version with some new content and not a bug ridden crashing mess? Sounds good!

I often had pretty good luck with the old X-ray engine by using hard/named saves only. After good progression and things were quiet...I saved. Don't rely on quicksaves. Also, don't max out every graphic setting and expect it to always stay smooth. You can stress things too much if not careful.
I'm having a smooth time so far.

Thanks for this!

So many Stalker mods - this one at least is true to the original (my favourite).
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
