[Help] Brand New Vortex Race 2, OS X compatibility issue
« on: Thu, 08 May 2014, 07:20:51 »
Solution Found: Seems to be a problem with a combination of things, 1) Mac OS X 10.9.2    2) Brand new MBPs and iMAC as well as Apple Cinema displays   3) Could be a possible motherboard / power issue.

Here's what's up!
After reading a million threads on problems/solutions for various bugs in the new OS X, researching usb drivers, etc...I re-read this thread on apple support.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5470234?start=0&tstart=0

Taking into account some assumptions: I added a usb extension roughly 5" from my MBP usb port, and plugged the usb cable from the keyboard into that, and wouldn't you know, it works! I have no f*cking clue why but it does. No more problem.

First of all, Hello everyone I am new to the board. I am so glad I stumbled onto this board. I recently got into mechanical keyboards, and I am addicted now...

So, I have a problem :(

I recently received an Vortex Race 2 white LED backlit, with MX Red's in the mail yesterday. (Vendor withheld because I do not believe it to be the vendors fault) The first thing that I noticed was the return key/enter key was misaligned, the left side was higher then the right side of the key (horizontal perspective). I popped the key cap off and sure enough the stabilizer wasn't seated properly causing the key not to be able to depress. I also noticed that the front left corner of the case, and the back right corner of the case where lower than the back left and the front right of the case, causing it rock on a flat surface. A simple business card under the back left corner fixed this. (I am not picky, I can live with it, or get a new metal case)...After fixing this problem, I plugged the keyboard into my December 2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina running Mavericks 10.9.2 and the keyboard could not be recognized. After rereading the english manual provided by Rhino on Youtube, I was still stumped. I turned off the computer and reset the SMC. This seemed to do the trick. However, when I put my computer into Sleep or locked the screen. I could not wake it from this state via the keyboard. I would have to unplug the keyboard, then plug it back in for the computer to recognize the keyboard. I would have to go through the keyboard set-up every time though. I came into work this morning and now the keyboard doesn't work at all, nothing. It will only work if I turn my computer off, then start it back up, it works when i have to log into my computer but after that nothing...then as I started to type in GeekHack to post this message from my Mac Bluetooth keyboard, the Vortex's backlit LEDs went out all together....

PLease help, I love this keyboard, the way it feels, size, etc...

Note: I will contact the vendor to see if they have any ideas or a return is in order.

Thanks for reading!

I think there was some thread with same problem (not Race, but Poker, but it's doesn't matter). I'd advise you to use forum search.
IBM AT Model F, Vortexgear Race 3, AEKII (Alps Cream Damped), Metoo Zero (modded to Kailh Box Navy)

Yes, It works with my Windows desktop.

I performed a search via the built in search, (still getting used to the search on this board) so I performed one via google with "problem" site:geekhack.org/index.php, I guess I missed that thread, I will search again. Thanks for giving me the heads up!
